My Second Marriage with the Mafia Kingpin novel Chapter 459

Chapter 459: MF

"Kill him."

Another wave of silence swept across the square.

The words seemed to echo louder than they should have. The guard holding the rifle nodded and placed his finger on the trigger.

Red simply stared at him before shifting his gaze toward the captain. Blood stained the corner of his mouth.

"Hey," he called just as the captain turned his back on him. "Your men don’t hit very hard, do they?"

The captain frowned and looked over his shoulder.

"What did you say?"

"Are you killing me because you’re scared?" Red asked. "Scared you won’t be able to control me?"

The captain’s face darkened. "Hah..."

He ran his tongue along the inside of his cheek before walking back toward Red and studying his battered face.

"You think you’re quite the fighter, don’t you?"

Red shrugged nonchalantly.

"This arrogance of yours isn’t something I’m interested in entertaining," the captain said with a laugh. "If you think provoking me will make me change my mind, you’re wrong."

His smile disappeared. "I simply don’t have the patience to keep a headache around."

To everyone watching, it looked like Red was either buying himself time or stroking the captain’s ego in a desperate attempt to survive.

But it didn’t work.

The captain glanced at the armed guard and nodded before stepping aside, careful not to be splattered with blood.

Before the guard could pull the trigger, Charm suddenly stepped forward.

"Please, don’t kill him!"

Charm dropped to his knees, his eyes fixed on the dry ground.

"He’s young and arrogant," he said quickly. "We’ll straighten him out. Give us a chance. He’ll learn to follow the rules."

Old Fool suddenly lowered himself beside him.

"Give me one week!" he shouted. "I promise he won’t cause any more trouble!"

The captain smirked as the other guards burst into laughter.

"Charm. Old Fool." He tilted his head as he watched the two men bow lower until their foreheads touched the ground. "He’s been here for less than an hour, and you’re already begging for his life?"

"Give the boy a chance!" Charm roared, his fingers digging into the dirt. "He’s young and doesn’t know better!"

Red stared at them and scoffed. If anything, he looked more offended than touched by their actions.

"Why the hell are you begging for me?" he shouted. "Even if you were dying, I wouldn’t beg for you."

His face twisted. "Man... this is embarrassing."

He meant every word.

How could these two humiliate themselves for him?

Red had no intention of dying here. Worst-case scenario, he would simply have to come up with an apology for Ashley after moving their plan ahead of schedule.

Yet these men were kneeling for someone they clearly didn’t even like.

What Red hadn’t realized was that Charm and Old Fool understood exactly why he had provoked the guards.

"You two should know better." The captain approached Charm and tapped the barrel of his rifle against the top of his head. "After being such a pathetic excuse for a cop, you’ve already caused enough trouble for everyone here."

He struck Charm’s head again.

"Why are you begging for someone like him? Don’t you feel guilty for everything you’ve already put these men through?"

Charm’s jaw tightened. He swallowed every insult, closed his eyes, and kept his head bowed as the rifle repeatedly struck the top of his skull.

"Playing the hero won’t earn you anything!" the captain continued. "The man you and this old fool are trying to save will become a headache."

His gaze swept across the other prisoners.
