Chapter 134
Her hand moved from my cheek to the back of my neck. She was pulling me toward her, her body angling in until there was no space left between our chairs.
I had never been with a woman. The thought flickered through my brain like a dying lightbulb, but I couldn’t find the energy to care. Everything about her was just so soft. Her skin, her voice, the way she smelled like expensive vanilla.
She was looking at me like she actually liked what she saw. And I was so tired, so drained of every ounce of fight, that I just stayed there, frozen. Her praise felt like a warm blanket on a freezing night, and I was starving for it
She leaned in. I could see the genuine softness in her eyes as they fluttered shut, and for the first time in my life, I felt someone’s admiration. It wasn’t about what I could do for them or how well I could hide my flaws.
Her lips were inches from mine, and I found myself leaning forward, craving that gentleness. I wanted to know it her kiss would be as kind as her words. Just as the feather-light touch of her lips brushed against mine, sending a spark through me that was so much better than the TENS unit, my own eyes drifted shut…
Ahem.
The dry sound of someone clearing their throat was like a bucket of ice water.
We both scrambled backward, the chairs screeching violently against the floor. Aileen stood up so fast she nearly knocked over the workstation, her face flushing a deep, panicked crimson.
I turned toward the doorway, and there he was. Raphael stood framed in the entrance, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. He looked perfectly composed, though his eyes were like two chips of flint.
“Aileen,” he said.
