Chapter 177
When she looked back at me, the vulnerability was gone, that reminded me exactly why she was a match for me.
“Fine,” she whispered. She didn’t pull her hand away, instead, she pressed her finger harder into my chest, “I want six months’ salary,” she said, her tone clinical, as if we were negotiating a merger rather than her life, Upfront. All ninety thousand. You put it in my account tonight, and I’ll be at my desk at eight o’clock Monday morning.”
I didn’t even blink. Ninety thousand was a rounding error to me, a cheap price to pay for the leash was about to put on her.
“Done,” I told her, but my focus was already fracturing, I really wanted to fuck her.
She didn’t let up, her finger still digging into my skin as if she could drill right through my ribs. “That’s not all. You’re the CEO of Orion Vector Technologies, Raphael. You have the power to make or break careers with a single phone call.”
She swallowed, the sharp line of her throat working as she stared me down.
“My credits for the semester depend on this internship. If I just quit, the university will pull my scholarship and my degree will be in the trash. You’re going to call the dean personally. You’re going to tell them I’m such a ‘vital asset’ to your firm that you’re fast-tracking me into a senior role.”
A slow, dark heat climbed the back of my neck. She was smart, I’d give her that. She was making sure that even while I was dragging her back into my world, I was the one cementing her future.
“You want me to lie for you,” I mused.
“I want you to use your influence to fix the mess you’re making of my life,” she countered, “You want me to leave this job, then you’re going to make sure Orion Vector is the reason I graduate with honors.”
