My Stepbrother's Dirty Little Secret novel Chapter 358

Chapter 358

The garage door that led to the main house clicked and swung open.

Maddie stood right there in the doorway. The bright morning light shone behind her. Her long curly hair was a bit messy from sleep, and her eyes were blinking against the darkness of the garage.

She wasn’t looking at me. Her eyes immediately swept past my shoulders, searching for her husband.

“Adriano?” Maddie called out, as she took a small step into the garage, “Baby, I was looking for you. Come to Bed It’s freezing out here.”

The moment Adriano heard her voice, he softened like a pathetic puppy. The mobster vanished, replaced instantly by a man who loved his wife.

He walked right past me, but as his shoulder brushed mine, his voice dropped into a tiny, deadly whisper meant only for my ears.

“One last warning, Raph,” Adriano hissed, “End it before it spreads. If this burns us, I will be the one to light the fire under you.”

He didn’t wait for my answer. He stepped right up to Maddie. Maddie smiled up at him, her small hands immediately reaching out to rest against his broad chest.

“Where were you?” she whispered, leaning into his warmth, “I woke up and the bed was cold.”

“Just handling some business with Raph, baby,” Adriano murmured.

He leaned down, his hands gripping her waist, and captured her lips in a kiss that made her let out a soft sigh. Before she could even step back, Adriano scooped her right up into his arms, lifting her off the cold floor. Maddie wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face into his shoulder with a quiet laugh.

Adriano turned and carried her through the doorway, as he took her back into the warm house.

The garage was totally silent again.

I stood there for a beat, then, I turned and walked toward the back stairs that led straight up to my private wing of the house.

I reached the top of the stairs, walked down the hallway. My bedroom door was already half-opened, throwing a thin slice of warm light onto the dark floorboards. I stepped inside, pushing the door open wider, and found Gianna waiting there.

She was sitting flat on the floor, her knees pulled up to her chest, She had washed up, her skin looking clean and flushed, and she was wearing an oversized black t-shirt.

She was sitting right in front of the massive glass enclosure where Medusa lived.

Gianna didn’t look scared at all. She had her hand inside the cage, her fingers gently moving against the smooth scales of the snake. Medusa’s body was moving slowly, sliding around Gianna’s small wrist, the snake’s black tongue flicking out into the air. Gianna was completely calm, as she played with the dangerous creature.

I closed the bedroom door behind me with a soft click, my dark eyes locking onto her.

She slowly stopped petting Medusa, her hand staying relaxed inside the enclosure as she turned her head to look up at me. The warm, low light from the glass cage hit the side of her face, making her eyes look incredibly large and deep.

She looked at my face, her eyes searching mine for a second, trying to read the mood I brought back from the garage. She didn’t ask about Adriano, and she didn’t ask about the noise downstairs.

“Can I sleep in here tonight?” she asked, catching me off guard.
