Chapter 370
I moved forward, my legs feeling much lighter now, and took my seat at the long table. I was sitting right in the middle, perfectly tucked between Claire on my left side and Maddie on my right side.
The moment I sat down, I didn’t even have time to look at the food.
Claire leaned over immediately, throwing her slender arms around my neck from the left. At the exact same time, Maddie leaned in from the right, wrapping her soft arms tight around my waist. They both squeezed me at once, hugging me from the side so tightly that I was pressed right into the middle of them like a sandwich.
“Happy birthday, sweetie,” Maddie whispered softly against my hair, giving my shoulder a gentle, loving pat.
“Happy birthday, Ginny,” Jules grinned as she came up behind me and hugged me from behind, her hug full of tight, bouncy energy as she shook me gently, “You are officially a year older, and we are going to make sure you have the absolute best day ever.”
“Happy birthday, Gianna,” Adriano stated, smiling at me weirdly.
“Thank you…” I said, my smile faltering.
Sunlight poured through the giant windows overlooking the gardens. Plates covered every inch of the surface. Pancakes stacked high with berries dripping syrup down the sides. Bowls of fresh fruit. Eggs. Pastries. Tiny jars of jam lined up perfectly beside silver trays of bacon and sausages.
Claire and Maddie were arguing over whether Dante had secretly stolen pieces of bacon from the kitchen before breakfast. Dante sat slouched lazily in his chair,’scrolling through his phone while occasionally reaching across the table to steal food directly off Silvio’s plate.
Silvio looked one second away from stabbing him with a fork.
Jules was stuffing her face with pancakes, syrup dripping down her chin, while my mother poured fresh orange juice into my glass. I finally started to relax, the tight knot in my stomach completely untangling as I took a bite of my food.
And then they asked me to cut cake in breakfast, it was a little weird, but I loved it.
Maddie suddenly gasped loudly beside me, “Oh my God, wait!”
Everyone looked at her.
She pointed dramatically across the table toward me, “We didn’t even sing properly!”
Claire’s eyes widened, “You’re right!”
Before I could even react, both women started loudly singing happy birthday again and Jules immediately joined them.
