Raphael glanced at me briefly before looking back at the road, “We did.”

“Then where did the car come from?”

“I always keep one here.”

I blinked once, “At the Void?”

“Yeah.”

I stared at the side of his face quietly for a second. Then something else hit me slowly, “The first time too?”

Raphael looked at me again, this time with the faintest pull at the corner of his mouth, “Yes.”

I frowned slightly, “You had a car here that night too?”

“Obviously.”

Every time he asked me to get on the back of his bike… every single time. He had another option. A safer one. A less intimate one but he still chose the bike.

And I always climbed on.

I looked back out the window quickly before my face gave something away again.

Outside, the city lights stretched quietly across the dark roads while silence settled between us again. I could feel Raphael looking at me every few minutes. He was giving me space to start talking first. And every single time I felt his eyes on me, my heartbeat sped up all over again.

I hated how aware I was of him all the time.

The sound of his breathing.

His hands on the wheel.

The quiet shifts in his expression every time he looked over at me.

At one point I glanced toward him at the exact same moment he looked at me. Neither of us looked away immediately.

Then Raphael turned back toward the road again.

The closer we got to the estate, the worse my chest felt because once we got home…

This became real.

The giant black gates of the Capone estate finally appeared ahead of us. My stomach dropped instantly. The sensors recognized Raphael’s car immediately. The gates started sliding open slowly without him even needing to stop.

I held my breath as we drove through. The estate stretched dark and massive around us while security lights glowed along the driveway. Most of the house windows were dark now.
