Chapter 594
No, no!
“I wasn’t even there when they hurt the girl!” Cole yelled, “They brought her to me already bleeding! Brianna was the one who hit her in the head! She used a heavy wooden club from the garage! They carried her in here like a sack of rocks, and I was the one who washed the blood off her face and wrapped that white bandage around her forehead! Check the footage! It’s all on the tape!”
A cold wave of pure horror washed over me. No. No, this isn’t right.
My eyes darted to Brianna. She was just staring at the floor, her shoulders hunched up as if she were trying to disappear into her own skin. Emma was next to her, weeping silently, her hands covering her face, refusing to look at any of us.
He forced them to do it. He held a gun to Morgan’s heads, what was Mama D supposed to do, let her die? Mama D loves me. She loves all of us. She wouldn’t hurt me for money. She’s a good person. He’s the monster who set this whole trap up.
I thrashed again, my muffled screams turning into a whine against the thick cloth gag. I looked at Raphael, begging him with my eyes to pull the trigger, to stop listening to the snake on the wall.
Mama D didn’t say she was innocent, but she didn’t say she was guilty either. She just sat there on her knees, looking between Cole and the Capones.
A broken sound escaped my throat. It wasn’t even a word but it was just enough for Raphael’s head to turn.
His eyes found mine again, and my eyes begged him to come to me and he, somehow, understood because the next second, he let go of Cole.
Cole fell down, coughing violently, but Raphael didn’t even look back at him,
He was already walking toward me. His face had gone completely blank as he stopped in front of me and crouched.
His gaze swept over me once.
The bandage, the dried blood in my hair, the bruises around my wrists, the ropes around my ankles.
“Line them up,” Adriano ordered, while checking bullets in his gun.
My heart dropped. Within seconds, the guards moved. They forced everyone onto the floor. Mama D and the girl, Cole and his men. They were all pushed down until they were lying face-first on the cold concrete.
The guards stood over them, raising their guns. The barrels settled against the backs of their heads.
I struggled against Raphael’s hold, panic crashing through me so hard I could barely breathe.
Raphael fingers moved to the knot behind my head. He pulled the gag free. The second it fell away, I sucked in a desperate breath.
“Raphael-“My voice broke, “He’s lying.”
The words rushed out so fast they stumbled over one another.
