Chapter 619
He’ll have to carry her….
One day he’ll resent it…
The words kept repeating.
Again.
Again.
Again.
I squeezed my eyes shut.
No…
No, no…
I didn’t want Raphael to carry me.
I never wanted to be something heavy hanging around his neck.
I just…
I just wanted…
A small sound escaped my throat before I realized I was crying.
I pressed my hand against my mouth. The tears kept coming anyway. They slid down my cheeks faster than I could wipe them away.
“Miss Gianna?” A gentle hand settled carefully against my elbow.
I flinched so hard my knees almost gave out.
“It’s alright,” the nurse whispered immediately, “It’s only me.”
I looked at her, and for a few seconds… I couldn’t remember who she was, and why was she with me? Everything else floated around inside my head like puzzle pieces that wouldn’t fit together.
“I…” My voice cracked.
She crouched a little so her eyes were level with mine.
“You shouldn’t be standing,” she said softly, “Let’s get you back to bed.”
Bed.
I shook my head, “No.”
“Your concussion-”
“I don’t…” My throat closed but I tried again, “I don’t want my room,” fresh tears spilled over,
“I…”
The words wouldn’t come out properly. Everything felt slow like my brain couldn’t catch up to my mouth.
“I need…” I swallowed hard, “I need my mommy.”
The last word came out so quietly I almost didn’t hear it myself.
“I need…” My lips trembled violently. “Please…”
My fingers wrapped around the sleeve of her uniform without thinking.
