My Stepbrother's Dirty Little Secret novel Chapter 720

Chapter 720

I looked him up and down.

“If that’s you… then it’s you.”

My eyes shifted to Dad.

“And if I can’t get to the person trying to control me, I’ll kill the only person I know I can reach… Myself.”

Dad’s face lost all its color, “Gianna, stop it!”

“Try to lock me in this house. Try to order me around. Try to cut me off from the people I love. The only thing you’ll end up controlling is my dead body. And then what?”

My laugh was empty.

“You called an entire Council to get me back. You made sure the Capones couldn’t come near me. So tell

me…”

I tilted my head.

“What do you think happens when they find out I died after you dragged me back here?”

Dad’s breathing stopped, “Don’t be ridiculous-”

“The Capones will burn this fucking world to the ground,” I looked between both of them, “And that Council you’re so proud of?”

My voice dropped to a whisper.

“They’ll get fucked right alongside you. Don’t mistake this for a threat. It’s the only outcome I can see if you keep trying to own me instead of listening to me.”

I stared at him for one long second.

His face had gone pale.

The confidence he had when I walked into this room with was gone. In its place was something I’d never

seen directed at me before.

Fear.

“Gianna…” Dad took one careful step toward me, his hands open like he thought I might bolt. “Listen to

me.”

“I have been listening!” My voice cracked. “That’s the problem. Everyone keeps talking, I keep listening. But nobody fucking listens to me.”

“I hear you.”

Leone shifted where he stood but, for once, didn’t interrupt.

Dad rubbed a hand over his face, looking older than he had a minute ago, “I know you’re angry.”

“I’m beyond angry.”

“I know.”

“You don’t know anything.”

He let the words hit him, “I’ll give you time.”

“I don’t want time.”

He sighed, finally giving up, “I’ll make sure no one touches your phone.”

I looked at him without saying anything, and smiled.

“I gave you my word,” he continued quietly. “I’m not taking it away. I just…” His voice softened. “I need you to calm down.”

“No,” the word came out flat, “I don’t want to calm down. I need air and food. I’m starving.”

I hadn’t eaten since… I couldn’t even remember.

Dad immediately nodded, “I’ll have something brought-”

“I don’t want food in this room,” I walked past both of them, “I need to get out of this house for five minutes before I lose my mind.”

Neither of them tried to stop me. Maybe because they were afraid I meant every word I’d just said. Maybe because they finally understood they couldn’t force me into anything.

Or maybe…

They simply didn’t know what to do with me anymore.

I pushed open the enormous front door. Warm Philadelphia air rushed over my face. The estate stretched out before me, exactly as I remembered.

It was beautiful.

It always had been.

Then I saw Perla. She was several yards away, walking along one of the garden paths. A smile found my face before I could stop it and the next second, my smile disappeared.

Someone was beside her.

A wheelchair.

A boy sat quietly in it.

No, not just any boy.

Giovanni.

My little brother.

Sixteen years old.

His dark hair had grown longer than I remembered. He looked taller too, older somehow, but far too thin.
