My Unchosen Ex Chases Reborn Me (Soren and Fiona) novel Chapter 330

A few days later, Mr. Sunderland, the Minister of Justice, was dragged into the fallout from Spencer's secret dealings with the Steppe Nomads.

He was stripped of his post and had no choice but to take his whole household and return to his hometown in retirement.

By the time the news reached Fiona, it was Soren who told her.

Ulrich was serving at the Censorate now, and because Spencer's private correspondence with the Steppe Nomads was under the Censorate's investigation, he had been seeing Soren often.

Sometimes he even brought Soren along with him to the Niven family.

Ulrich had wondered about that too.

Every time he invited him, the lord agreed without even pausing to think, and if it was because of Fiona, that didn't quite make sense anymore now that she was already engaged.

Still, being close to Soren wasn't a bad thing, so Ulrich kept those questions to himself.

So whenever Fiona saw Soren, it was because he had used Ulrich's invitation as a reason to come visit the Zonfrillo Estate.

"He wanted to ride his grandson's blood all the way to the top, and now he's lost everything because of that same blood," Fiona said. "He had it coming. What happened to the Sunderland Estate is entirely their own doing."

Soren said, "Your cousin has always held an idle post. It won't be easy for him to move up later. What are you planning to do?"

Fiona had no idea why he suddenly had the leisure to stick his nose into this.

She answered offhandedly, "Then why doesn't Lord Soren help arrange something?"

If he couldn't do it, why bother asking in the first place?

Soren went quiet for a moment, then said, "What if he came to work under me? As for his official career, I can naturally find people to look after him."

"That's the Thankerton family's territory. Mr. Thankerton's too." Fiona wasn't actually surprised.

There were people loyal to him in the Censorate, and there were connections there too.

"Your brother and your father still appear, on the surface, to be on Cornelius's side. If I help your own brother, people will definitely start guessing," Soren said. "But if I help your cousin, others will think the Niven family is placing bets on both sides. Then no matter which faction it is, when they move against your family, they won't strike to kill."

That would naturally do them some good.

As things stood, the Niven family already had favors banked with Cornelius, Zephyr, and even Marcus—enough that, later on, they could still hold on to a steady footing.

"If Tristan got promoted because of you, Joanna would be deeply grateful. She cares more than anything about her son's future. As long as you're the one backing Tristan, she won't spend all day talking through her teeth anymore."

Fiona said, "Wouldn't that be too much trouble?"

"No." Trouble was the last thing it would be. Doing something for his own wife could never count as trouble. What he minded was her refusing to trouble him, then turning around and troubling somebody else instead.
