Chapter 213 No More Waiting

It was like someone had slapped Shawn back into reality. He just stood there, staring at me in stunned silence.
“So,” I said calmly, “for the sake of a peaceful household, you should go find someone your mother actually likes and marry her.” And without waiting for his reaction, I turned around and walked away.
This time, Shawn didn’t try to stop me. Maybe he finally understood–love might be between two people, but marriage always involves two families.
And he couldn’t be selfish enough to fight against his entire family just to bring me back.
Men are logical creatures. They think further ahead than women often do.
And now, that’s what I needed to learn–how to be just as rational.
When I got home, Jace approached me, eyes full of concern.
“What are you doing here?” I asked as I closed the door.
“I brought you breakfast,” he replied softly.
“I’m not a kid, you know. I can go downstairs and eat by myself,” I said with a teasing raise of my brow and a smile.
Jace chuckled. “Yeah, I know. But I still wanted to bring it to you.”
I looked at him, and he suddenly ducked his head, shyly avoiding my gaze.
With my naturally doe–like eyes, I always looked overly affectionate–sometimes, it wasn’t even intentional. This face just gave off the wrong kind of signals.
“Thanks,” I murmured, then headed into the kitchen to boil some water. I brewed him a cup of morning coffee and opened the breakfast he’d brought.
“You already eat?” I asked him.
He shook his head. “No, I was waiting to eat with you.”
Such a pure–hearted young man–untainted by the world’s messiness. Every word from him felt sincere and sweet. Being around him was like a breath of fresh spring air.
Maybe this was how Shawn once felt, too. There’s something special about someone new. They always come with a rush of unexpected joy.
“Alright then, sit. Let’s eat,” I said with a gentle smile, sounding like a seasoned older sister.
Jace’s face lit up as he sat down.
Just then, my phone buzzed with a new message. I glanced at the screen. It was from Shawn.
I had no idea what mental state he was in to be sending something like this. “Tiffany, my love for you hasn’t faded. It only grows stronger with time. Please, don’t start something with him yet. I’ll convince my family.”
This version of Shawn was full of surprises, contradictions, and uncertainty. But I had someone new now. Why would I want the old one back? Just to fill a void?
I didn’t respond. I flipped my phone over and left it face–down.
Jace’s clear eyes fell on the phone for a second, then he visibly relaxed. He handed me a peeled egg. “Here, Tiffany, Eat.”
I took it and took a bite. It was warm and fragrant.

“Sure. Let’s go somewhere.”
“Wanna go to Disneyland?” he suggested.

“Yeah, sounds good.” I’d been before—with Yuna. But back then, my whole heart was focused on her. I barely got to enjoy anything myself.
Jace’s smile stretched even wider when I agreed to go out with him.
I changed into a comfy casual outfit, tied my long hair into a ponytail, and followed him downstairs–only to find he’d brought a Porsche coupe.
“Hop in,” he said as he opened the door for me. I bent down and slid into the passenger seat.
Jace, clearly in a good mood, circled around and started the car.
