Claire went straight to the bathroom and took another shower.
She hadn't sweated, and no one in the dining room had been smoking.
But she still felt like her skin was coated in a scent that made her heart race.
Wilbur's scent.
Every time she thought about the possessive things he had whispered in the dark, her cheeks flushed crimson.
"Pull yourself together!" Claire groaned, covering her face.
She had just finalized her divorce; she was absolutely not falling into another man's trap!
She sank into the bathtub, fully submerging herself in the cool water to forcibly lower her body temperature.
But when she finally breached the surface, gasping for air, her heart was still hammering out of control.
She was losing her mind.
After tossing and turning all night, Claire showed up to training the next morning completely sleep-deprived. Her lack of focus caught up with her, and she took a hard tumble off her horse.
Even though the training arena was lined with soft sand, she still took a nasty hit to her shoulder.
The director immediately sent her to the hospital for X-rays to ensure nothing was broken.
After the scans, Claire sat in the waiting room, only to run into the absolute last person she wanted to see.
It was the day of Felix's follow-up appointment.
Secretary Lynwood spotted her first.
Under normal circumstances, she would have pretended she hadn't seen a thing and kept her mouth shut.
But after figuring out how desperately Felix was still in love with his ex-wife, she couldn't just walk away.
Abandoning his test results, Secretary Lynwood frantically dialed her boss. "Mr. Quigley, I just saw Claire in the radiology department. I think she's injured."
Felix was there in seconds. He sprinted down the hallway, panic etched into every line of his face as he locked eyes with Claire. "You're hurt? Where? How bad is it? What did the doctors say?"
He fired off a barrage of questions.
Claire looked at him with icy indifference. "I'm fine."
