Chapter 70

He stopped about a foot away from her, looking down at her porcelain-like face. “Weren’t you going to buy me dinner? Why are you just tanding there?”

The voice from the phone merged with the one in front of her. Stephanie looked up at him. No matter how many times she saw it, Jonathan’s face was still stunning enough to take her breath away.

The surrounding noise seemed to fade into the background with his arrival.

Stephanie asked, “What would you like to eat?”

The receptionist, who had seen Jonathan come down personally, was so shocked her jav. had dropped.

Her gaze shifted to Stephanie, and she finally noticed that the woman was dressed in designer clothes from head to toe, carried herself with an air of grace, and had the confident bearing of a wealthy heiress.

But what was her relationship with the boss? Mr. Vasquez had never come down to greet someone personally before.

This was a first!

Stephanie left in Jonathan’s Rolls-Royce Cullinan. For their meal, he had chosen a high-end restaurant.

They entered a private room, and soon the table was filled with an array of dishes.

Jonathan leaned back in his chair, one hand resting casually on the table. His posture was relaxed, yet he exuded a natural elegance.

He didn’t look at Stephanie, his gaze fixed on the food.

It looked good. Light and simple, just right for her delicate stomach.

Stephanie sat properly across from him.

At first, she had thought he was the pervert Quennel had described.

But then she’d met him at the hospital and had seen a different side of him.

Perhaps she shouldn’t have judged him so quickly. After all, the way he had saved her in that abandoned factory with a single, perfect shot had been incredibly cool.

Stephanie knew very little about Jonathan; her only impression came from Quennel.

She decided she should form her own opinion.

Remembering the purpose of her visit, Stephanie was about to speak when Jonathan’s

phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the caller ID, and his brow furrowed in annoyance as he stepped outside to take the call.

The door to the private room was ajar, and she could faintly hear his voice.

Jonathan’s tone was sharp. “We have no feelings for each other. You know you can’t force something that isn’t there. Don’t you understand that?”

Stephanie pursed her lips. Was he in the middle of breaking up with his girlfriend?

She knew it was wrong to eavesdrop, but the sound was carrying right to her. It didn’t really count as eavesdropping, did it?

Mrs. Vasquez Sr.’s voice crackled through the phone: “You two have been living under the same roof for days now. Don’t you dare take advantage of that girl and then refuse to take responsibility.”

“Who told you we were living together?”
