Silas ended the call with a quiet “Mm,” grabbed his coat, and headed out.

He didn’t go straight to the Suncrest Clan. Instead, he arranged a meeting elsewhere with Kael.
Half an hour later, Kael stepped into an underground casino not far from Suncrest Clan territory.
The moment Remy–curled up in Kael’s pocket–spotted Silas sitting in the gaming hall, he wilted on the spot. “Oh, poopy. Why is it Daddy?”
Shouldn’t it be Daddy Lucien and Daddy Calum? Why Daddy?
“Mr. Auris, have a seat.”
Silas lounged on the couch, smiling as Kael entered alone and signaled for someone to pour a drink.
“I thought Lucien and Calum would come. Didn’t expect it to be you,” Kael admitted, surprised.
“He’s my cub. Of course I’d be the one to come.” Silas said, nudging the glass toward him. “I don’t have much time, so I’ll get straight to the point. Since Remy came to you on his own, and you’ve shown up so readily, that means you’ve already figured everything out.”
Silas extended a hand. “Bring Remy out. Emma is very worried. I’m taking him back now.”
Remy immediately hissed to Kael, “I just saved your life. You can’t hand me over!”
If he showed himself now, he’d be screwed.
Kael ignored him. He didn’t want Emma worrying any longer. He simply reached into his pocket and pulled Remy out, placing him gently into Silas‘ palm.
Remy was rendered stupefied. Wretched therian! I saved you! How can you sell me out so easily?!
“D–Daddy…” Remy instantly shifted into his toddler form, standing in Silas‘ palm as he forced a flattering smile. “Why did you personally come? I could’ve gone home on my own.”
Silas didn’t answer. Instead, he smiled, opened his lightcore, took a picture, and sent it to Emma. Then he recorded a voice message, his tone impossibly soft. “Emy, I found Remy. Don’t worry anymore. I’ll bring him home tonight and make sure he doesn’t get lost again.”

Kael stared, stunned by the voice Silas was using. He had known Silas for years–not closely, but enough. The Silas he knew never spoke like this. Certainly not with that level of husky softness in his voice.
Once the voice message was sent, Silas looked down at Remy sitting obediently in his palm.
Remy had wanted to return to his normal size, but Silas‘ mental power kept him firmly suppressed, leaving him sitting like a tiny apple in that large hand.
Silas asked, “Start talking. What exactly happened?”
Now that he was recounting his achievements, Remy perked up at once. “Daddy, you really have to reward me this time. I saved this bird. The Chitinid female poisoned him, and I detoxed him.”
Kael nodded. “He’s telling the truth. If not for him, I’d still be trapped in Dahlia’s illusion, under her control.”
Remy continued, “Daddy, that female named Dahlia is a Chitinid–high–tier too. She’s definitely approaching Mama with bad intentions. I’m only doing all of this to protect Mama. So… when you take me home, you can’t punish me.”
Silas understood immediately. He turned to Kael. “So Dahlia’s other mates are just like you— poisoned and trapped in illusions?”
Kael nodded. “Yes. We male therians would never bond with a Chitinid female–not even if we remained unbonded for life.”
Besides, structurally and fundamentally, their races couldn’t truly form a bond.
Silas nodded and looked down at Remy. “How did you detox him?”
Remy lowered his head and shook it hard, several small petals falling onto Silas‘ palm. “With my petals.”
Silas studied the tiny white petals scattered in his hand. Though the flower on Remy’s head was transparent, the petals it created were pure white.
