No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 105

On the brightly lit overpass, traffic flowed endlessly below.

By the emergency lane guardrail, York and Claudia stood facing each other.

They stared at one another in silence for what felt like an eternity.

When York finally recovered from his shock, he grabbed her wrist.

His face was terrifyingly dark. "Claudia, that was our wedding ring!"

Claudia wrenched her hand free, her eyes resolute. "I want you to disappear from my life, just like that ring!"

Their eyes met, and York visibly flinched.

He looked at her with a mixture of shock and panic.

His lips parted, his voice raspy and strained.

"Are you serious?" he asked.

Claudia's expression was blank as she drew a line between them. "We've known each other for over twenty years, been married for three. I just need a clean, final break. I'm not being dramatic, and I'm not throwing a fit. I really, truly want a divorce!"

Growing up in a wealthy family, she had seen plenty of women tolerate their husbands' affairs and even illegitimate children for the sake of their family, their children, or their financial security.

York's own mother was one of them.

But she couldn't do it.

A knot formed in York's chest.

When he spoke, his voice was unsteady. "Even if you want a divorce, you have to come back to the country with me first."

She'd had servants with her even in college. This was the first time she had ever been so far away on her own.

York couldn't stand the thought of it.

York shook his head. "Claudia, I know you ran away to force my hand, to make me choose between you and Ann, to make me send them away. But you—"

Before he could finish, Claudia dropped her bag and scrambled over the guardrail.

"Claudia!" The sight of her desperate act nearly stopped York's heart.

She gripped the edge of the railing with both hands. When she saw York approach, she let one hand go. "Don't come any closer!"

York froze, his hands raised in surrender.

"York!" she screamed, her eyes red. "I'm telling you again, I'm not throwing a tantrum! I'm not forcing you to choose, and I never wanted to force you to break up with Ann! I don't love you anymore! I don't want you! I find you disgusting, do you understand?"

She shrieked again, hysterical. "Do you have to see me jump from here before you'll believe that I really want a divorce, that I'm not trying to pressure you or just being difficult?"

York was clearly furious, but he didn't dare move. "I believe you! I believe you!"

"Then leave now!" she cried. "Go back and sign the divorce papers, and stop interfering in my life!"
