No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 16

York hesitated. "Home."

A smile touched the driver's tense face.

York leaned back against the seat and closed his eyes.

He had planned to stay away for a few days to let her cool down.

But now that she had followed him and caught him, there was no telling what kind of scene she would make.

Most of the day had passed. He wondered what state the house was in, but figured she must have vented her anger by now.

If she had calmed down, he needed to have a serious talk with her.

When York arrived home, Claudia wasn't there.

He followed his usual routine: shower, change into pajamas, and then head to the study to work.

Around nine in the evening, Wendy and Darleen arrived.

Wendy had been searching for Claudia all day. A stress blister had formed on her lip. Seeing her son calmly working at home as if nothing had happened, she nearly fainted from rage.

York, however, tried to reassure her. "Mom, don't worry. She'll be fine."

He knew exactly how dramatic Claudia could be.

Once, for her birthday, he'd been a day late with her gift.

She had gotten angry and disappeared.

When he finally found her, she was at a luxury spa, sipping champagne and enjoying a deep-tissue massage.

She knew how to enjoy life; she loved herself.

She could torture everyone else to death, but she herself would always be fine.

Wendy threw a cup of tea in York's face, her voice trembling with anger.

"York, I raised you for thirty years, and I have always been so proud of you. Only now do I realize that you are just as cold-blooded and heartless as your father!"

York was unmoved. "Mom, you're exaggerating."

Wendy's eyes welled with tears. "Claudia is your wife! That girl has loved you since she was a child. How can you give her the silent treatment after a fight? Are you trying to push her to divorce?"

York's tone was firm. "Mom, we're not getting a divorce. I know what I'm doing."

Darleen gave her brother a thumbs-up. "Wow, brother. You're just banking on the fact that Claudia loves you too much to ever leave you, aren't you?"

She added, "But don't forget, the more you love someone, the less you can tolerate betrayal!"

After all, the disappearance of the Ferguson family's young mistress was not exactly a respectable matter.

Besides, the Watkins family was long bankrupt. Claudia had no value to the Fergusons and wasn't worth the trouble.

Time passed, and the day of Jessica's discharge from the hospital arrived.

York asked Mark to go get Jessica while he headed off to sort out Ann's discharge papers.

At nine in the morning, Mark saw a perfectly fine Claudia arrive at the hospital to pick up her mother and immediately called his boss.

York, who was packing Ann's things, showed no particular emotion upon hearing that Claudia had returned.

He gave Mark the day off to get some rest.

As for Claudia, he didn't need to say a word. She would come home on her own.

York carried the luggage and got into the elevator with Ann.

Meanwhile, Claudia was waiting for an elevator with her parents.

The elevator doors opened, and Claudia's eyes met York's. He had his arm protectively around Ann, shielding her from the other people in the elevator.

It was the same protective posture he had used with her in an elevator just the other day.
