The moment York and Claudia's eyes met across the space, he instinctively pushed Marcia away.
Marcia, however, paid no mind to York's reaction. She greeted Claudia graciously. "Dr. Watkins, what a coincidence."
Claudia and her assistant stepped out of the elevator, giving a polite nod in response.
As they walked past York, Claudia's gaze never fell on him again.
Watching Claudia's departing figure, Marcia couldn't help but remark, "No wonder you're so insistent on remarrying," Marcia said lightly. "Your ex-wife really is beautiful."
When York didn't reply, she turned to find him lost in thought.
Marcia prompted him again, "Mr. Ferguson, let me walk you back to your room."
After escorting York back to his room, Marcia called a doctor for him.
The doctor cleaned and checked York's wound before starting him on an IV drip.
York's attending physician addressed Marcia, "You're his family, and how can you be this careless? This is the third time the patient's wound has bled and gotten infected. From now on, he is not to leave the hospital. He needs to rest and stay in bed as much as possible."
Marcia glanced at York and explained, "I apologize, doctor, but I'm a friend of the patient, not family. However, I will pass the message along to his family so they can take proper care of him."
Not long after the medical staff left, Peter and Darleen rushed in.
Seeing them arrive like a whirlwind, Marcia tactfully picked up her purse. "Since Mr. Peter and Miss Ferguson are here, I'll be on my way."
After leaving York's room, Marcia went to the outpatient building to pick up her grandmother's prescription.
There, she ran into Claudia and her assistant, Mira, once again.
Mira saw Marcia walking directly toward Claudia and discreetly stepped back into the clinic.
