No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 48

York remained silent.

Claudia had indeed changed after marrying him.

She had become more affectionate, gentler.

But he didn't believe she could truly change her inherently willful and dramatic nature.

When York returned to the hospital room, the caregiver was helping Ann with her meal.

York took out his phone and asked the caregiver for her payment info, settling her salary for the month. "You don't need to come in starting tomorrow."

The caregiver was stunned. She stood beside the bed, wringing her hands. "Mr. Ferguson, Miss James, if I've done something wrong, please tell me. I'll change."

York lowered his gaze, hiding his emotions. "You're not suited for this job. Please pack your things and leave."

The caregiver looked to Ann for help, but Ann kept her head down, not daring to speak. York was the one paying for her care; she had no say in his decision to fire someone.

In fact, she had been very happy with this caregiver. Just yesterday, she had mentioned it to York, and he had promised to give the woman a raise next month.

Why would he suddenly fire her out of the blue?

Suddenly, Ann thought of Darleen.

That night Darleen came to her home to cause trouble, the caregiver had indeed said something out of line while defending her.

Darleen must have complained to her brother, and that's why York fired the caregiver.

She hadn't realized how protective York was of his family. It seemed she would have to find a way to get on Darleen's good side in the future.

"Not even for an apology," York stated.

As long as they didn't meet, unnecessary conflicts could be avoided. Claudia was proud; unless provoked, she wouldn't even spare Ann a second glance.

And Ann was a simple, quiet person. If she didn't willingly approach Claudia, she wouldn't get hurt.

York's tone was firm, and Ann quickly relented. "I'll listen to you, York. From now on, I promise I won't ever approach your wife again."

It was after eight in the evening when York, having settled things with Ann, finally got home.

The house was dark and silent. There were no lights on, no sounds. It was as if no one lived there at all.

York dragged his weary body upstairs, only to find the bedroom door locked from the inside.
