Shelly glanced at Claudia through the restaurant's glass door.
She pushed out her pregnant belly and asked Mark, "What, are you afraid I'll cause trouble for that bitch?"
Given Shelly's pregnancy, Mark didn't dare get too close. He could only say stiffly, "Mrs. Quinn, you can't afford the consequences of causing trouble for Dr. Watkins."
Celia fanned the flames from the side. "Everyone knows Mr. Ferguson and that bitch are divorced. My aunt Shelly is now the lady of the Quinn family, and she's carrying the future heir. So what if she bullies her?"
Ann's sister-in-law, Fiona, rode on their coattails. "Assistant Mark, if you want to suck up to Mr. Ferguson, you'd be better off flattering Miss Windsor. When she becomes the Young Lady of the Ferguson family, she might even promote you. That bitch Claudia is just Mr. Ferguson's ex-wife now. She's nothing."
The three women were clearly there for Claudia, giving Mark a massive headache.
Though his two bodyguards had stopped Fiona and Celia, Mark didn't dare touch the pregnant Shelly.
Shelly stormed into the restaurant and called out directly to Claudia, "Dr. Watkins, you've got some impressive skills. You and Mr. Ferguson are long divorced, yet you can still make his men act like your loyal dogs!"
Claudia and Peter exchanged a look and then stood up.
As they rose, so did Darleen and Kevin.
The four of them looked at each other. Darleen pointed at them. "What are you two—"
Peter cut her off, pointing back. "What are you doing here?"
Darleen gestured to Kevin. "I'm on a blind date."
Peter gestured to Claudia. "Claudia and I are here for dinner."
Although Mark worked for York Ferguson, he had always treated her with respect. She couldn't tolerate this.
Fiona pointed at Mark and challenged Claudia, "This man, Mark, brought bodyguards to block us at the door and threaten us. Are you saying you didn't order him to?"
Celia added, "Dr. Watkins, you don't own this restaurant. Why should he be allowed to keep us out just because you're eating here?"
Claudia turned to Mark. "Assistant Mark, is what they're saying true?"
Mark waved his hands in terror. "Dr. Watkins, please don't listen to their nonsense!"
He couldn't let Claudia know he was there on his boss's orders, no matter what.
Mark gritted his teeth and went for broke. "It's like this, Dr. Watkins. I was on my way to buy some food for my wife after work and happened to pass by. I overheard these three women plotting to cause trouble for you. They were saying awful, unspeakable things. I couldn't just stand by, so I tried to reason with them, and they turned it all around on me."
