No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 581

When Palmer, the butler, told her that Old Mr. Ferguson wanted to invite her family to dinner to catch up, Claudia couldn't help but scoff.

That old man from the Ferguson family hadn't changed a bit.

Still so arrogant and domineering.

She was about to refuse when York beat her to it. "Go back and tell my grandfather that won't be necessary."

Palmer looked troubled and refused to leave. "Young Master, the patriarch gave a direct order. You should try to persuade Miss Watkins to come."

Felix hesitated for a moment, then turned to York. "York, our family was in the wrong for suddenly breaking off the engagement. Even though it's in the past, we never properly apologized to your parents. Since your grandfather is extending an invitation, we should go see him."

As soon as Felix finished, Palmer quickly added, "Mr. Watkins is right. I'll go inform the patriarch right away."

York's blue, complex eyes were fixed on Claudia, his expression unreadable.

Claudia stood frozen, lost in thought.

She knew exactly what the men of the Ferguson family were like.

But since the old geezer had come looking for them, even if she refused this time, there would be a next time.

In that case, she might as well take this opportunity to clear the air once and for all.

Claudia pulled York into a private room and spoke candidly. "York, you see what's happening. The closer you get to us, the more dissatisfied your grandfather becomes. For everyone's sake, you should probably keep your distance from now on."

York's voice was as gentle as he could make it. "Claudia, my family's opinion doesn't represent my own."

"Don't worry," he promised. "I won't let my family give you any trouble."

In his past life, he hadn't protected her.

In this life, he would never let her suffer even the slightest harm.

Claudia felt like she couldn't get through to him. "We'll see tonight whether they'll give us trouble or not."

Several hours later, Claudia and her parents arrived at the hotel as planned.

York came forward to greet them. "Why didn't Eddy come?"

Old Mr. Ferguson's sinister gaze locked onto Claudia.

"Your wedding has been canceled," the patriarch's voice was sharp. "So why is the Watkins family still accepting gifts from York? Do you think he's your family's personal ATM?"

Felix stepped forward, about to speak, but York cut in. "Grandfather, breaking off the engagement was my idea, and the Watkins family hasn't accepted any gifts from me. Where is this coming from?"

Old Mr. Ferguson snorted. "Let's not even talk about the things you bought on your business trip to Maronia. What about the item you spent over a hundred million on at the charity auction? Who did you give that to?"

York's face was cold. "Grandfather, it's my money. What I buy and who I give it to is my right. You have no right to interfere!"

Smack!

Before York could finish, Sewell slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet.

He pointed at his son, his face red with anger. "Back then, you embezzled company funds and cooked the books just to fill the hole for the Watkins family. Don't think we can't find out just because you thought you covered your tracks perfectly!"

At Sewell's words, the faces of the Watkins family turned pale.
