No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 59

"I can't forget! I'll never be able to forget!"

Claudia struggled in his arms, completely breaking down.

She was a person, not a corpse. She had seen it with her own eyes and heard it with her own ears. How could she possibly forget?

When they got home, York carried her straight to the bedroom upstairs.

His phone kept vibrating. Pinning her wrist with one hand, he reached for it with the other.

He tried to reason with her. "I had a meeting with Mr. Jordan from Nexus Dynamics this morning. I've already missed it. Please, just calm down for a second so I can call him back."

Claudia lunged, snatched the phone from his hand, and threw it across the room. "You want me to calm down? Then go buy me the morning-after pill."

No matter what, she could not get pregnant with his child.

York stared at the phone lying silent near the wall for a few seconds but didn't move to pick it up.

He stood in front of Claudia, taking both her wrists in his hands.

In the gentlest voice he could manage, he said, "Even with Ann James and her son in the picture, it won't affect your position in the Ferguson family. It won't affect our marriage."

Claudia's face was worryingly pale.

She spoke as if drained of all energy. "York, they've already seriously affected my marriage."

She said, "If it weren't for them, even if my husband didn't love me, at least he wouldn't have missed our third wedding anniversary."

She said, "If it weren't for them, my husband wouldn't have ignored me time and again to play the devoted partner at someone else's bedside."

She said, "If it weren't for them, my husband wouldn't have humiliated me in front of my colleagues."

...

"Claudia Watkins!"

York cut her off, unable to listen anymore.

When Claudia didn't respond, York got up to leave.

She closed her eyes softly. "The truth is, I knew three years ago that you didn't marry me for love. I was the one who was foolishly hoping for more. I was wrong."

Her words made him freeze.

He turned back, looking at the unnaturally still figure on the bed. He might not have even noticed the panic and heartache flashing in his own eyes.

Afraid her mood would turn again, he waited for Darleen to arrive before leaving.

At noon, in a private room on the third floor of The Imperial Club.

Peter stopped York from opening a third bottle of wine. "Once you present that paternity test to the old man, it won't matter if it's fake—it'll become real. And when Ann and her kid start demanding official recognition, what are you going to do then?"

York leaned forward, elbows on his knees, looking utterly exhausted.

His voice was deep and laced with an indescribable frustration. "If I don't do this, knowing Grandfather's temper, he'll never leave Ann and her son alone. Ann's life is already ruined because of me. I can't let them be hurt any more. I owe her this."
