York's sudden and violent reaction terrified Ann. She watched him cautiously, her voice dropping to a near-whisper as she pleaded. "York," she cried, "please, just take pity on me. Think of it as compensation for me saving your life. Can't you just grant me this one little wish?"
Seeing his intense reaction but hearing no words, Ann's panic grew. She tested the waters nervously, "York, I'm in this mess because of you. I'm not asking for much. You can't even agree to this one small thing?"
York still didn't respond.
She covered her face and began to sob. "My whole life's happiness was destroyed by your grandfather! I'm just desperate and needed a little help. If I had known you didn't want to see me this badly, I would have been better off dying abroad with my child!"
"Waaah..." Ann ran out of the room, still sobbing.
Mark quickly closed the private room door behind her.
York calmly stubbed out his cigarette. "How's that thing I asked you to handle?"
"The evidence is with the police," Mark reported. "They should be paying her a visit soon."
York stood up, his expression unreadable.

A little over ten minutes later, on the roadside by the entrance of The Imperial Club, Ann wiped away her tears, staring intently at the door and stomping her foot in frustration. She had run out crying like that, and York hadn't even bothered to chase her.
Ann placed the glass on the coffee table, her eyes red. "All York did was ask me to explain the sixty million. He didn't say anything else."
Her brother, Backus, couldn't help but ask, "Do you think he suspects you're lying?"
Fiona pushed her husband aside and sat next to Ann. "No way. If that Ferguson guy really suspected anything, do you think Ann would have made it back here in one piece?"
Ann thought that made sense. If York had really found something out, he wouldn't have done nothing.
Fiona continued, "Ann, York is incredibly generous to his fiancée's family. Did you tell him you have nowhere to live? Did he say anything about buying you a villa?"
