Claudia walked to the next aisle and froze. She saw York.
He was holding a package of sanitary pads in one hand and his phone in the other, deep in conversation.
Claudia could hear his voice clearly.
He said, "Ann, what brand do you usually use? Or should I just get a few different kinds?"
His tone was gentle and patient.
Dressed in an expensive business suit, he exuded an aura of devoted husbandly care that the formal attire couldn't conceal.
She and York had been married for three years. The one and only time she had asked him to buy her pads, he'd told her to just order them online in bulk to save trouble.
In the end, he'd had his female assistant buy them and deliver them to her.
And now, after the massive fight they'd had, he could still leave her at home, call his sister to babysit her, and rush out... to personally buy sanitary pads for Ann.
Claudia's vision went black, and she nearly collapsed.
"Claudia!"
Luckily, Darleen was there to catch her.
York heard the shout and turned, his eyes meeting Claudia's look of utter despair.
He dropped what he was holding and strode toward them.
Darleen yelled, furious, "Brother, what are you doing?!"
York shot Darleen a warning glance as he cautiously approached Claudia. "What are you doing out?"
Before his fingers could even touch her clothes, Claudia screamed and scrambled away. "Don't touch me!"
Seeing how agitated she was, York didn't dare make a move.
Claudia wrapped her arms around herself and kept backing away, looking like a cornered animal.
She stared at the man before her, feeling like she couldn't breathe.
Seeing Peter was like seeing a savior. Claudia begged through her tears, "Peter, please, get me out of here!"
Peter dropped his shopping bag and rushed to help her, but York wouldn't let go.
He shoved Peter away with one hand and wrapped his other arm around Claudia's waist. "I'm taking her home."
Peter angrily pushed back, trying to pull Claudia away. "Can't you see she doesn't want to be near you?"
Darleen was on the verge of tears. She shoved York again. "Brother, this is all your fault! Can't you just let her go?!"
The chaos was too much for Claudia.
She summoned all her strength and broke free from both York's and Peter's grip at the same time.
But the force of her struggle sent her stumbling, and she lost her footing.
York realized what was happening a fraction of a second too late. "Claudia Watkins!"
Amid a chorus of screams and gasps from the surrounding shoppers, Claudia tumbled down the escalator.
