No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 69

The next morning, Claudia went to work as usual.

She had been in low spirits for a while, and the stress had caused her to lose a significant amount of weight.

Even with makeup, she couldn't hide her haggard appearance.

After assisting Old Mr. Moore with a patient, Claudia ran into Gideon again on her way to the physical therapy department.

The Harvest family owned a global network of private hospitals. Although he wasn't a permanent doctor at this location, he often came in for expert consultations on difficult cases, so Claudia saw him frequently.

Gideon noticed her fatigue immediately. "Is being Old Mr. Moore's assistant a bit too stressful?"

Claudia offered a polite reply, then hesitated before asking, "Gideon, you're well-connected. Do you happen to know anyone in the auction business?"

Gideon adjusted the glasses on his nose. "Are you looking to buy or sell?"

"I have a set of jewelry I'd like to have appraised by a reputable auction house," Claudia said. "If the price is right, I want to sell it."

"I know a jewelry specialist at Glory International Auction House," Gideon offered. "I'm actually meeting him after work. You could come with me, and I'll introduce you."

A flush of excitement colored Claudia's cheeks. "Thank you, Gideon! I'll see you after work."

With a clear goal in mind, her spirits lifted.

Once she sold the jewelry, she could finally divorce York and escape her current life.

She could have asked Darleen or Peter for help, but they were too close to York. She didn't want any complications.

As soon as her shift ended, Claudia walked out of the hospital's main building.

She approached him, noticing his dangerously dark expression.

"York," she said guiltily, "maybe I should be the one to go and explain things to your wife. We're both women; it might be easier for us to talk."

York's gaze finally landed on Ann.

"No, that won't be necessary," he said, comforting her. "You don't know what she's like."

Seeing his refusal, Ann didn't press the issue.

Instead, she said, her voice filled with sorrow, "I'm so sorry, York. I just want to forget the past and start a new life. If it were just me, I would have died before coming back to bother you. But I'm a mother, and the child is innocent. You understand that, don't you?"

Seeing Ann's pitiful and helpless state, York softened his tone. "Ann, I know it hasn't been easy for you and your son. You sacrificed a lot for me and endured so much. You're a victim in all of this. But my wife is a victim now, too. Your pain wasn't caused by my wife, but her pain was definitely caused by us."
