No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 8

Ann sat on the edge of the hospital bed, her back to the door. Her arms were wrapped around York's waist, her face buried in his chest, her long hair spilling over his arm.

Claudia only needed one look at Ann's back to know she must be beautiful.

The girl stood up, wrapping her arms around York's neck, her soft voice trembling with unshed tears. "York, can you please stay with me tonight?"

So, they were already that close.

York gently removed Ann's hands from his neck, and that's when Claudia saw the bracelet on Ann's wrist.

The diamonds on it flashed with a brilliant light that seared her nerves.

She slowly raised her own left hand — there, on her wrist, was the exact same bracelet.

So when he had praised it as 'beautiful,' he wasn't complimenting her hand, but the bracelet. A bracelet that belonged to his long-lost love.

A roar filled her ears, drowning out the conversation in the hospital room.

Fighting back a wave of boundless fury, Claudia lost control. She tore the bracelet from her wrist and threw it.

She stumbled away from the scene, hiding in a deserted corner where she collapsed, sobbing uncontrollably.

Claudia felt like she was dying. She had no idea how she even made it home.

Exhausted from crying, her mind finally cleared. But her body was numb.

After a shower, she tried to turn on the hairdryer, but her fingers were so stiff she couldn't even flick the switch.

Lying still in bed, her red-rimmed eyes had long run out of tears. She buried every ache and sting deep down, locking them away in silence.

Even losing control, even crying, had to be done at the right time and in the right place.

So this was what it meant to be an adult.

As soon as her mother was discharged, she would end this all.

The thought of divorcing York in a few days sent a shiver through her.

In the dead of night, when she was alone, all her emotions came rushing back. Claudia's pain reached its peak.

The nurses were startled by York's expression.

One of them quickly stepped forward to explain. "I'm sorry, Mr. Ferguson. A very beautiful lady just threw it away. She said she didn't want it."

Threw it away? She didn't want it?

York latched onto those keywords.

A few minutes later, York returned to the room and handed the thermometer to Ann. "I've spoken with the nurses' station. An aide will be here to stay with you shortly."

Ann weakly swung her legs over the side of the bed. "York, I thought you were staying with me tonight."

York patiently helped her back into bed. "I have something I need to take care of at home."

Ann obediently let go, but not without reminding him, "York, I feel terrible realizing how much of your time my son and I have taken up these past few days. I've been completely thoughtless. Your wife must be upset. You should go back and smooth things over with her."

York adjusted Ann's pillow, helping her lie down. "Don't worry, she's fine."
