No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 89

Claudia didn't know how she made it home.

She lay quietly in bed, her eyes empty as she stared at the ceiling.

From the moment Ann James and her son returned, she had gone from defiance to hysteria to utter despair. She had tried everything she could think of to get York to agree to a divorce. But York had never tried to solve their problems; he had only ever tried to 'solve' her.

After years of loving him, ripping him out from the depths of her heart was no easy task. Yet, she realized that battling for this marriage was a complete lost cause.

She hoped that by letting go, everyone could find some semblance of peace.

Late the next morning, Claudia was jolted from a groggy sleep by her ringing phone.

"Claudia, did you redecorate the house?"

Hearing Darleen's voice, Claudia shot up in bed.

"You went to see me?" Claudia asked tentatively.

When Darleen mentioned seeing a renovation company moving materials, Claudia breathed a quiet sigh of relief. She had warned Ann last night. The woman wouldn't be foolish enough to let the Ferguson family discover she had moved into their marital home before York returned.

Back at the house, Darleen hung up.

Peter stopped one of the workers to confirm again. "Are you sure the person who hired you for this renovation is named Watkins?"

The worker pulled out the contract and pointed to the signature in the bottom right corner. "We wouldn't be able to start work without the homeowner's consent."

Seeing Claudia's signature, Peter was convinced.

After a moment's hesitation, York opened his message thread with Claudia. The last message was the one he had sent her the night before he left.

Staring at the screen, York felt an unfamiliar wave of irritation. On all his previous business trips, Claudia might not have called him much, but her texts would be constant throughout the day. Since Ann's return, she hadn't sent him a single message on her own initiative. Even with renovating the house and being willing to move back in, she wouldn't bother to tell him herself.

After a brief internal debate, York dialed her number.

The call connected, and the tension in his face began to ease. "I hear you're redecorating the house."

From the other end of the line, Claudia's voice was surprisingly steady. "There are locked rooms in both the master suite and your office. All of your precious stuff's there, untouched," she assured.

Hearing her compliant response after so many days of conflict, York's tone softened unconsciously.
