No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 1006

Noelle was surprised that Mia had received the news so quickly.

Mia looked at her. "Don't forget what I do for a living. Besides, I've had my people keeping an eye on the Merlocks. I get to know about any movements they make."

Since Noelle needed help, Mia was determined to excel in her role as an intelligence gatherer.

Noelle hugged Mia. "Thank you for the heads-up, but don't worry. Mrs. Merlock and Laura did show up, only for Mr. Hitchcock to use and discard them. His bodyguards dragged them away."

Grace cursed out loud. "Serves them right! That mother-daughter pair was so arrogant at the mall this afternoon, and now, they've been put in their place so quickly. Talk about instant karma."

Noelle spoke with mockery in her voice. "Exactly! Laura went from acting like the queen of the world this afternoon to a total trainwreck tonight.

"This proves you can't rely on anyone but yourself. Otherwise, you can be abandoned at any moment." Just like how she was in her previous life.

Mia spoke up. "Actually, I don't understand what Laura was trying to achieve. Now her reputation is ruined, and her future is destroyed."

Noelle shook her head. "I don't understand how these people think either."

Nonetheless, everything seemed to have been settled for now.

...

As Noelle lay in bed, she suddenly remembered the special menu at L Bistro created just for her. She was surprised it still existed. She couldn't help but open her messages with Cedric and slowly scroll up to see their previous conversations.

Noelle recalled their interactions from that time, feeling a weight in her chest. At that moment, she suddenly noticed the chat displayed an indicator: "The other person is typing..."

"You should rest early."

Upon seeing his message, Noelle bit her lip. This guy sent a random money transfer, yet he did not bother with any explanation. Annoyed, she simply replied with an emoji.

Then, Noelle put her phone aside without accepting his money transfer. That night, she had a dream. She dreamed that Cedric sent her many money transfers, her phone constantly buzzing to the point she couldn't even answer calls.

Noelle woke up in the middle of the night and suddenly smelled something acrid. Thinking that something might be on fire, she quickly got out of bed and walked to the balcony. That was when she saw it—the flames.

Realizing that there really was a fire, Noelle immediately shouted, "Mia, Grace, wake up! There's a fire!"

Noelle hated fire the most.
