Noelle's heart tensed up when she saw Carl coming out of the room. She had no idea what kind of answer Carl would give her.
Everyone turned their attention to Carl, who looked only at Noelle as she spoke up. "I've finished the check-up. There's just one small problem."
Noelle frowned. "What kind of problem?"
Alfred said, "If there's anything you need, just let us know."
Carl glanced at Cedric and said, "Mrs. Greene isn't suffering from a serious illness at all. She was poisoned."
Noelle was shocked. "Poisoned?"
That was usually a scenario that only happened in some long-winded TV series, not in real life. She had long assumed that Emma had fallen ill with some rare illness, but now, it turned out to be poisoning.
For whatever reason, the very first people Noelle suspected of the poisoning were the Merlocks. The Merlocks had previously used underhanded tactics to threaten Emma regarding the issue of kidney donors after all.
Carl continued, "Yes. The toxin used for the poison is rather special. It is normally undetectable once administered into the body. The only thing doctors will see is that her body starts to fail, with the kidneys in particular taking the most damage."
Cedric looked coldly at Carl. "If it's normally undetectable, then how did you find it?"
Noelle had the exact same question in mind.
Emma was housed in the Greene family's private hospital, where a top-tier medical team monitored her. There was no way they could miss the fact that something was wrong with Emma's body.
Carl replied calmly, "That's a problem you should investigate further into. While the poison is generally hard to detect, that doesn't mean that it's impossible."
Noelle replied, "Are you saying that something's wrong with this hospital? This is the Greene family's private hospital, you know?"
Carl's tone noticeably softened when he looked at Noelle. "The human heart is often said to be the easiest thing to change. I guess you could say that nothing stays the same forever."
He soon stormed off the corridor with the rest of his team.
Noelle looked at Cedric and said, "Other than the doctors who might have misdiagnosed Mrs. Greene on purpose, you'll also need to find out how she was poisoned. You might even have to investigate the personnel working in your house as well."
Ruth was the only person who could have tampered with Emma's body, as Emma would not be on high alert when spending time with her best friend. There were too many opportunities for Ruth to poison Emma through food and drinks.
Cedric's expression darkened as rage flickered through his eyes. He quickly suppressed his anger as Noelle was still around him.
He then turned around to make a few phone calls.
Noelle was rendered speechless by the various mix of emotions going through her heart while she just stared at his back.
Nobody could have ever expected that Emma's kidney failure was caused by poisoning.
