No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 785

Noelle had still been worried that Cedric might get found out by the Greene family just moments ago. She hadn't expected it to happen so soon.

But after some thought, it made sense. Cedric had mobilized the Greene family's resources. Several days had passed, and Emma was bound to have uncovered some clues by now.

Even Cedric was surprised. Logically, he had only used his own network, so his mother shouldn't have traced it back to him so quickly. Which meant there must be something going on that he didn't know about.

He looked at Noelle. "You leave first. I'll handle this."

No matter what Emma had found out, this wasn't a place Noelle should stay.

Noelle was still worried. "Are you sure everything's going to be okay? Mrs. Merlock is your mother's best friend. She'll be furious if she finds out what you did."

Cedric argued, "But even if Mrs. Merlock is her best friend, what she did to your parents is a crime. Once my mother learns the truth, she'll be angry but won't cover for a criminal."

Noelle didn't feel entirely reassured.

Cedric remained composed. "Let me take care of this. I'll leave Xenia to you."

If Emma found out, then more people in the family would be involved. He needed to deal with the Greene family himself.

Noelle looked into his unreadable eyes. Somehow, it put her at ease.

Just before she left, she couldn't help but tug on Cedric's sleeve. "If your mother wants to see me, I'll explain everything to her myself."

Cedric held her hand. "Alright."

She stepped out with two assistants with a dark look.

The moment she saw Cedric, she questioned sharply. "Where are you hiding her? Ruth practically raised you. How could you do something like this? How am I supposed to face the Merlocks after this?"

Emma was livid. She hadn't had a good night's sleep these past few days, pouring all her energy into investigating her best friend's disappearance.

She had even tapped into the Greene family's network. And still, there had been no trace of Ruth. It had seemed suspicious from the start. In the end, she had finally found a lead, and it pointed straight to her own son.

At first, she couldn't believe it. Even if Cedric didn't like Laura, the Greene and Merlock families had always been close. The Merlocks had never wronged the Greenes. There was no reason for her son to go so far as to kidnap Ruth.

But all the evidence she had gathered proved it was Cedric's doing. And now, furious and confused, she had come in person to confront him for answers.
