Noelle knew that she would not be getting any more answers and decided to leave the basement with Cedric. She thought for a while and then said, "I believe the evidence is related to the car. The Merlocks must have tampered with it."
Given that Sean was working at a car dealership, he should be very familiar with motor vehicles.
Cedric nodded in response. He recalled the scene of the car accident and said, "The driver never died inside the car. He died by the door as if going back inside to get something, but he didn't manage to escape from the explosion in time."
"Could it be that the driver went back to get what was supposed to be the evidence? Maybe he was trying to destroy it, and he didn't expect the car to explode so soon," Noelle replied.
She believed that Sean would have tried to get something that he could use to threaten the Merlock family.
"Good point. Sean must have been there as well. He would have the chance to take the evidence with him after the driver died," Cedric replied.
Noelle nodded and said, "You're right. It seems like things are becoming clearer now."
He looked at her and replied, "Do you actually believe what they said?"
"I don't. I think they're just shifting the blame away to each other to avoid responsibility. I won't be letting any of them off the hook."
She glanced back at the basement and continued, "I'm taking an eye for an eye. I'll make sure that every single one of them pays for what they've done."
Cedric's expression darkened as he clenched his fists.
Noelle continued, "I think the evidence Sean possesses isn't just about the car being tampered with. It might also involve the person sitting in the back of the Merlock family's car."
Cedric was unsure whether Sean recognized him. But judging from Sean's expression earlier, he had a hunch that Sean was using the said evidence to threaten the Merlocks.
She continued, "But if that's all it was, then there would be no physical evidence other than a mere witness statement. The Merlock family might be able to escape legal punishment in that case."
She could tell that Donovan only really cared about the money that Sean had taken away from him.
"Noelle, why claim that you would work with the Merlock family if you don't believe what they've said? What exactly did you get out of him?" Donovan asked.
He also wanted to know about the truth.
Noelle smirked and replied, "Why should I tell you? I don't owe you any explanations. I've only agreed to let you meet Sean so that you would just give up already."
"You can't just do that!" he shouted.
She stared at him and replied, "There's no way Sean doesn't know about how much you've doted on Xenia throughout the years. Who knows how much he had been laughing about you in the shadows as you raised Xenia for him."
Donovan's face turned red from anger. "Say that again if you dare."
