No Longer Be your Luna (Jane and Xander) novel Chapter 18

Chapter 18: Blurry Lines.

*Jane*

I swallowed hard. My brain screamed at me to shove him back,

to laugh it off, to remind him that this whatever this was a

terrible, terrible idea. That he needed to stop this ridiculous.

game. But my body had other plans.

A betraying rush of heat surged through me. I wanted to say

something, anything, but my brain couldn’t function long

enough to form any coherent words. All I could think about was

how close he was, how easy it would be to finally taste him.

Before I could think or even catch my breath, he had erased the

remaining space between us. We were close, so close that I could

see the flecks of silver in his icy blue eyes. so close his breath

brushed against my cheek, our noses pressed against each other.

His scent wrapped around me, making my knees weak and my

lips part.

“Make a choice, Jane.”

Those four words undid me. I had to say something, but my

brain had completely short–circuited. All I could pay attention to

was how close he was to me. There was a look of joy shining in

his eyes, along with some darker and more dangerous meaning.

“You’re doing it again,” he murmured, his voice thick with

desire.

“What?” Even my voice didn’t sound like mine.

And when his lips curved into a wicked grin, I knew he was

thinking the exact same thing. “That expression,” he whispered.

“Like you’re trying so hard not to want this.”

His lips were dangerously pressed against mine. “You’re

overthinking. Just… let it take its course.”

Let it take its course. Like I wasn’t already about to lose it. “Is this

just a game to you?”

“Isn’t this the same for you?” His voice… it sent a jolt of heat

through my belly. He lifted his hand, and my breath stilled as he

reached toward me. His fingers brushed a loose strand of hair

from my cheek, just the lightest touch, but it set fire to my skin.

His thumb grazed my jaw, just an inch away from my bottom. lip. I almost leaned in, almost gave myself away completely.

But his words brought me back. They reminded me why we were really here. This wasn’t real. None of this was supposed to

else.

But right now, with Aaron’s hand cradling my cheek and his

breath warming my lips, it didn’t feel like acting. Not even close.

We were inches away from doing something that felt too dangerous. And yet, moon goddess help me, I didn’t step back.

“Aaron…” I said his name again, this time more firmly. “Stop”

He didn’t move. His gaze locked on mine, hand still resting on my cheek. “Do you really want me to stop?”
