Ian was also an expert at concealing all his emotions beneath a calm exterior, making him impossible to read.
"Alright, I'll go back to the Neural Interface team tomorrow," Eleanor finally agreed.
Ian Goodwin paused for a moment before urging her, "You should hand over your work today and go back this afternoon."
Eleanor's eyes filled with confusion. Why was he in such a hurry? No matter how she looked at it, Ian's behavior today was unusual.
Not only had he suddenly launched a new research project, but he had also specifically emphasized its direction.
This inevitably brought Mansfield's disappearance to mind. Could it be—
No, that couldn't be right. Eleanor shook her head, dismissing the ominous thought. Mansfield was on a mission; how could he possibly be connected to this research project?
Just then, Eleanor's phone rang. She glanced at the name on the screen, and her breath caught.
Ian's sharp gaze also swept over; it was Garth Ellington calling.
Eleanor picked up her phone. "I need to take this call."
Ian's eyes followed her as she hurried away. He lowered his gaze, his deep eyes lost in thought.
"Mr. Goodwin, are you alright?" Dr. Smith asked with concern.
"I'm fine," Ian said, looking up. "Doctor, I'll be counting on you for Eleanor's follow-up research."
"Don't worry, I'll adhere strictly to the plan," Dr. Smith nodded, though he was curious why Ian would let Eleanor leave now. After all, she was working on the very medication their future daughter would need.
But Ian did look unwell. He patted Ian's shoulder and said, "Mr. Goodwin, you should get some rest. You look terrible."
Just then, Eleanor pushed the door open and came back in, a clear look of relief on her face. Ian understood that Garth had reassured her.
The words "father-in-law" lingered on his tongue before he forced them back down, taking a sip of water from the glass on the table.
Of course Eleanor got what he really meant. She looked down and organized the documents in her hands, saying softly, "I'll give it my all."
Indeed, Garth had repeatedly urged her on the phone to work hard on this. Eleanor genuinely hoped to make a significant achievement, one that would make her a fitting wife for Mansfield.
The meeting room fell into a brief silence.
Eleanor stood up. "I'm going to handle the work handover now."
While Eleanor was with Dr. Smith, Ian pushed open the door to her office. He lay down on the long sofa inside, resting his head on his arm.
He had discovered that this was the only place in the entire lab where he could sleep peacefully.

Story not going anywhere....
I love this couple, I hope they get back together!...
Without Vanessa to serve as an antagonist, it’s turned a reasonably story into dead wood. I just can't anymore. After, Vanessa's life went downhill it was the perfect time to wrap up the story....
