Faye wanted to tear Horace to shreds, but when she heard that her father could go to jail and her own reputation would be ruined, she panicked. She absolutely could not let Horace destroy what was left of the Yeatons.
At that moment, beneath the madness in Horace's eyes, there was also a flicker of fear. He wasn't some seasoned criminal; he was educated, and had once been a young man full of dreams. But reality had driven him to this. Now, holding evidence against Roland, he had twisted that into some strange obsession with Faye.
Right now, more than anything, he hoped Faye would submit and agree to be his girlfriend. He still naively hoped for a future with the girl he had admired for six years.
Faye bit her lip hard. After the initial rage, she regained her composure. She knew she couldn't provoke Horace, at least not now.
To calm him down and buy time for her father and herself, Faye took a deep breath, forcing down the hatred and disgust that threatened to choke her. She hugged her knees and looked up at Horace. "Fine, I agree."
A wave of intense elation washed over Horace's eyes. He walked over and crouched down, trying to stroke her messy hair. "That's right, Faye. Do you know how much I love you? I've had a crush on you for six years. In my heart, you're my goddess."
Faye turned her head away slightly. The smile on Horace's face stiffened for a moment, but he quickly reassured himself. It was fine, there was plenty of time. She was his woman now.
"So you'll let my dad and me go?" Faye asked, her gaze calm.
"Of course. As long as you're my girlfriend, your dad will be my future father-in-law. How could I harm you?" Horace quickly pledged his loyalty. He still hoped Faye would see his good side, forgive him for what he did today, and be with him.
"My dad's company is a mess. You have to help him," Faye immediately started giving him orders.
Horace sat down, looking somewhat helpless. "With Yeaton Holdings' current situation, it's unclear whether it will be restructured through bankruptcy or if someone will take it over."
Horace couldn't say much more. As soon as Faye left, he clutched his head. He found it hard to accept that he had obtained Faye this way, but the thought of her agreeing to be his girlfriend filled him with a sweet sense of joy.
However, the moment Faye got back into her car, she felt as if she had just lived through a nightmare.
Tears of humiliation streamed down her face again, and her stomach twisted until she was gagging uncontrollably.
She never thought Horace would become her nightmare. In that moment, her mind was filled with the image of Joel, that gentlemanly man as pure as the bright moon. From this day forward, she could never reach him again.
But this was not the time for a breakdown. The Yeatons' crisis was not yet resolved. She had to see what, if anything, could still be salvaged for her family.
