Eleanor left home to meet Ryan at Meridian Dynamics.
As soon as they arrived, Byron Chase's assistant came to greet them. "Miss Sutton, it's been a while."
"Mr. Mercer, good to see you," Eleanor greeted him.
"The chip has been sent to the testing area on the top floor. Let's go up and observe together," Mr. Mercer said, adding, "Mr. Goodwin will be joining us shortly."
Eleanor nodded and followed him upstairs. In front of a massive circular testing platform, researchers in white lab coats were making final preparations. Eleanor's gaze was fixed on the precision anti-shock case in the center, which was about to be opened.
Just then, the automatic doors to the lab slid open silently.
A tall, imposing figure entered, flanked by several of Byron's top executives. Ian had arrived.
As soon as he appeared, the project lead approached him to report. "Mr. Goodwin, the 'Helios' chip has arrived safely. All handover procedures are complete. We're ready to begin testing at any time."
Ian gave a slight nod. "Begin," he said, but his eyes instinctively shifted to where Eleanor was standing.
She was wearing a grey suit today, her long hair pulled back neatly, revealing her smooth forehead and long neck. She put on the protective glasses a staff member handed her and was now speaking with Ryan in a low voice.
One of Byron's engineers stood beside her, listening intently. Despite how young she was, she carried herself like a scientist who belonged at the same table as every top expert in the room.
A look of admiration crossed Ian's face, but he didn't go over to disturb her. He took the spot front and center, radiating the quiet ease of someone who’d been in charge his whole life.
"Understood," Byron nodded.
Eleanor and Ryan walked out of the testing area, still discussing the results. As they reached the grand lobby of Meridian Dynamics, she saw a black Maybach parked at the entrance. Ian was standing by the car, apparently waiting for someone.
Eleanor's steps faltered for a moment before she continued toward the lobby.
The afternoon sun was harsh, and she had to narrow her eyes a little as she stopped in front of him. "Thank you so much for your help with the chip. We couldn't have done it without your unwavering support," Eleanor said, her gratitude sincere.
"I gave Garth my word that I would do everything in my power to save Mansfield," Ian replied in a low voice, his gaze meeting hers. "You don't have to keep thanking me."
Eleanor was taken aback by his business-like tone. She simply nodded. Regardless, the Ellington family owed Ian a great debt.
