Evelyn didn't want to go to bed until after ten. That night, with her arms wrapped around Eleanor's neck, she suddenly asked, "Mommy, when can Daddy sleep with us?"
Eleanor was lost in thought and was caught off guard by her daughter's question. She paused, then gently stroked her daughter's head, changing the subject. "How about we go look at a new house tomorrow?"
Evelyn nodded happily. "Okay! I want a big house with a garden so I can play ball."
"Alright," Eleanor promised with a smile.

The next day at nine-thirty, Ian drove Eleanor and Evelyn to an exclusive residential area near a private international elementary school.
It was a community of villas developed for the wealthy, serene and elegant with lush trees and tight security.
Ian pulled into a parking spot next to a large, semi-detached home set in a more secluded part of the neighborhood.
The property consisted of two independent three-story villas cleverly connected, sharing a garage and a private lawn. It was said that the previous owners were a wealthy couple who had designed it to raise their child together.
The exterior of the villas was luxurious, with large glass walls that guaranteed excellent natural light.
But the most appealing feature was the sprawling private garden, which covered over two thousand square feet. It was beautifully maintained, and in one corner of the healthy green lawn, there was a children's playhouse and a swing set.
"Wow! I love it here!" Evelyn cheered as she ran onto the grass, turning back to her mother. "Mommy, Princess will love it too!"
Eleanor was indeed won over by the garden. She could already picture her daughter and Princess playing here without a care in the world.
The golden light, the lush expanse of green, her daughter's laughter, and the dog's playful barks—it was a snapshot of the peaceful, grounded life she had once thought was out of reach.
"This part of the neighborhood is more secluded, so it's private and exceptionally quiet. It should be good for your work," Ian said, looking at Eleanor with anticipation in his eyes.
