No More Mrs. Nice Wife (Eleanor) novel Chapter 1430

That night, Eleanor lay in bed with her daughter. Evelyn was sleeping soundly in her arms, but Eleanor couldn't fall asleep. She put in her earbuds, took out her phone, and scrolled through social media for the latest updates.

Since very little had been released, there wasn't much news about the fire. Eleanor put her phone down and closed her eyes to rest.

The next morning, Serena came to pick up Evelyn at eight o'clock. Since Eleanor had to work and it was summer vacation, the Goodwin family had offered to take care of Evelyn.

Watching her daughter happily take Serena's hand to leave, Eleanor said, "Serena, thank you."

Serena paused, then smiled. "Ellie, don't be silly. You don't need to thank me for this."

With that, she led Evelyn away.

At seven that evening, Eleanor arrived at Goodwin Manor for dinner after leaving the lab. As she sat on the sofa, her phone buzzed with a notification. She picked it up and saw it was a message from Ian.

[What are you up to?]

Eleanor typed back a reply. [How are things over there? Is everything okay?]

A second later, her phone rang. Ian was calling her directly.

Eleanor took the call and walked out of the living room into the garden. "Hello?"

"The preliminary investigation indicates it was arson. They found the three missing workers. None of them made it. There are twelve injured patients being treated at the hospital. We're currently in talks with the local government about compensation and next steps."

Eleanor's heart clenched, her fingers tightening around her phone. Three workers had died? This was no longer just property damage; it was a major industrial accident that had surely caused social unrest in the area.
