If he hadn't used every manipulative trick in the book, the man standing by her side right now would have been Mansfield, Xavier, or Joel.
Every single one of them was exceptional. They respected her, and their affections were entirely undisguised. She would have been happy choosing any of them. Instead, he was the only one who had become her shackle.
He couldn't deny that over the past three years, he had fought ruthlessly to reclaim his ex-wife.
Without that relentless calculation, how else would he have secured a place by her side? How else could he have courted her again?
Warm water cascaded down as Ian braced one hand against the shower tiles. He let the spray hit his head, hoping it would wash some sense into his irrational mind.
It only took Joslyn about fifteen minutes to prepare the food, and Eleanor carried the tray up to the second-floor living room.
However, Ian still hadn't come out. Frowning, she stepped into his master bedroom. She could hear the water running, but there was no sound of movement. A sudden wave of panic hit her—had he passed out in there?
The moment the thought crossed her mind, Eleanor called out sharply, "Ian."
There was no response from the man inside. Without a second thought, she abandoned any hesitation and pushed the bathroom door open.
With a swift click, the door swung wide.
The room was thick with steam, casting the bathroom in a hazy fog. Ian was standing completely still behind the glass enclosure, one hand resting on the tiled wall, letting the showerhead drench him.
At her sudden entrance, he finally reacted. His gaze narrowed slightly as he looked at the woman invading the bathroom, his voice dropping to a gravelly rasp. "Why are you in here?"
Eleanor's mind went completely blank for a few seconds. She had no coherent thoughts, merely staring at the man through the misty vapor. His powerfully built, muscular physique certainly didn't look like that of someone who was about to pass out.
She spun around almost instantly. The only sound left in the heavy air was their slightly ragged breathing.
"Don't take too long. Hurry up and get out," Eleanor said to the wall before quickly exiting and shutting the door behind her.

Story not going anywhere....
I love this couple, I hope they get back together!...
Without Vanessa to serve as an antagonist, it’s turned a reasonably story into dead wood. I just can't anymore. After, Vanessa's life went downhill it was the perfect time to wrap up the story....
