Eleanor didn't even stop to answer the phone. She gripped her cell and sprinted downstairs, throwing open the connecting door and rushing straight toward the second-floor master bedroom.
She was moving so fast that the moment she charged through the bedroom door, she slammed headfirst into a solid wall of muscle.
The man was clearly startled but reacted instantly, wrapping his arms tightly around her waist to keep her from bouncing backward and falling.
Stunned, Eleanor tilted her head back and met his gaze.
Ian was fully dressed in a tailored, dark gray suit. His hair was impeccably styled, and apart from the slight pallor of his skin, he had completely reverted to his usual persona—the cold, commanding corporate titan.
But right now, as he looked down at the slightly breathless, panicked woman in his arms, a hint of amusement danced in his eyes.
She could say the most ruthless things imaginable, but her actions always betrayed her. She still cared about him.
Eleanor took a quick step back. Ian gracefully adjusted his cufflinks, clearly preparing to head out.
"You're still sick. Where do you think you're going?" she demanded, eyeing him in disbelief.
"There's an emergency meeting at Goodwin & Co. I need to be there," he replied in a smooth, low register. Then, he added, "I only called to let you know I was leaving the house."
Eleanor's cheeks flushed with heat. She cleared her throat awkwardly. "Oh. I thought—"
"You thought I was dying and calling for help?" Ian smirked. Clearly, even with a fever, the man was insufferably smug.
He reached into a nearby drawer and pulled out a pair of glasses, sliding them effortlessly onto the bridge of his nose. The frames perfectly concealed the faint, feverish redness in his eyes and masked his emotions entirely.
Instantly, he radiated the aura of a high-powered billionaire—a true pillar of the business world.
"Are you sure you should be driving?" she couldn't help but ask.
"I can drive. It's just a low-grade fever now," he dismissed lightly, checking his luxury watch. "I really have to go."

Story not going anywhere....
I love this couple, I hope they get back together!...
Without Vanessa to serve as an antagonist, it’s turned a reasonably story into dead wood. I just can't anymore. After, Vanessa's life went downhill it was the perfect time to wrap up the story....
