Eleanor stood stunned for a few seconds—she hadn’t expected Mansfield to move so quickly. Everything was already arranged. Simone had also booked her flight for early the day after tomorrow, planning to check into the hospital in Kingston ahead of time. Apparently, you really did have to reserve those private suites well in advance.
Eleanor didn’t refuse; Simone genuinely needed this, and honestly, Eleanor doubted she would have been able to secure a private suite herself.
“Thank you, Mansfield,” she said, her gratitude sincere.
“No need to thank me. If you need anything else, just call,” Mansfield replied almost instantly.
Eleanor turned to Simone. “Professor Langley, I’ve arranged a private suite for you at Kingston Military General Hospital. You can check in as soon as you arrive.”
Simone’s eyes widened. “Those suites are expensive! A regular room would have been just fine.”
“It’s not too costly, and it’s already taken care of. It’ll be better for your recovery,” Eleanor reassured her.
“That’s right! Professor Langley’s been having trouble sleeping lately,” Laird chimed in. “If she can rest in a private suite, that’s the best thing. Dr. Sutton, you really do think of everything.”
Eleanor couldn’t help but give a wry smile—the one who thought of everything was actually a friend of hers. The idea hadn’t even crossed her own mind.
Just then, her phone buzzed again. This time, it was a message from Ian.
“I’ve already reserved a private suite in advance. Professor Langley can check in at The Kingston Hospital whenever she’s ready.”
Eleanor replied without hesitation: “No need, it’s already arranged.”
After sending the message, she slipped her phone into her bag and helped Simone out toward the parking lot.
They climbed into Laird’s car—Eleanor reminding him to drive carefully—before she opened the passenger door and settled in herself.
On the way back to the lab, her phone vibrated once more. She glanced at the screen—another message from Ian: “Glad it’s settled.”
Eleanor gently brushed her daughter’s hair back. “When you’re all grown up, this hotel will be yours, Evelyn.”
“Really? Then I want to be just as amazing as you, Mommy—so I can run the company well!” Evelyn nodded seriously.
Suddenly, curiosity lit up her eyes. “Mommy, will Daddy’s company be mine someday too?”
Joslyn froze and glanced at Eleanor, who smiled and tapped her daughter gently on the forehead. “That’s your dad’s decision, sweetie. Mommy doesn’t know.”
With that, Eleanor neatly sidestepped the sensitive topic.
Joslyn’s mind wandered, heavy with thoughts. No matter how well Eleanor’s businesses did, they’d never compare to the Goodwin family fortune. And if Mr. Goodwin remarried and had more children, the lion’s share of the family business would go to them. Even if Evelyn got a piece, it wouldn’t be much.
Evelyn popped a bite of cake into her mouth, chewing thoughtfully. “But Mommy, why did Great-Grandma tell me I should study hard and take over Daddy’s company when I grow up?”

Story not going anywhere....
I love this couple, I hope they get back together!...
Without Vanessa to serve as an antagonist, it’s turned a reasonably story into dead wood. I just can't anymore. After, Vanessa's life went downhill it was the perfect time to wrap up the story....
