No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 117

Chapter 117 An Emergency

Marshal lifted his head from his tasty canned food and nudged Nella’s pant leg with his forehead.

As if to say, “You’re right.”

Nella was quickly cheered up by Marshal.

And just as quickly, she pushed Alfred’s inexplicable phone call to the back of her mind.

Behind the pet hospital was a 5,300-square-foot yard.

It was specifically for dogs boarding there to take their daily walks.

Since Marshal had mostly recovered, Nella took him out to play in the yard for over half an hour.

When it was about time, she headed back to the hospital for her shift.

In the duty room, she picked out a few photos she’d taken of Marshal earlier and posted them on Facebook.

The caption read, “Just adopted a little puppy. Isn’t this little guy a total heartthrob?”

After posting, she didn’t check her phone again.

She went to the bookshelf and pulled out several patient files for upcoming surgeries to review.

A little after eight, she went to the inpatient building for routine rounds.

Just then, the phone in her white coat pocket rang. It was the nurse station.

“Dr. Milo, where are you?”

“I’m at the inpatient building. What’s wrong?”

“Something happened to the patient in Room V2002. Please come take a look.”

“Okay. I’m on my way.”

V2002?

Isn’t that Patrick’s room?

He’s been recovering well these past few days. How could something suddenly go wrong?

Nella frowned, quickening her pace as she jogged toward Patrick’s floor.

Inside Patrick’s room, the night caregiver looked deathly pale. She stood there at a loss, her legs trembling slightly.

Patrick lay on the bed, breathing laboriously, his expression full of pain.

Nella quickly went to Patrick’s side to examine him.

“Dr. Milo, the patient has an abnormal heart rate. Blood pressure is elevated. Oxygen saturation is dropping…

“The ECG and cardiac ultrasound results are out.

“It’s an intracardiac thrombus.”

Nella’s face tightened. “Heparin, stat.”

Inside the room, Nella calmly organized the team to carry out emergency treatment for Patrick.

Before long, Patrick’s parents and Zoey arrived after being notified.

By then, Patrick’s condition had stabilized.

But when Nella came out, her expression didn’t look good.

There were no issues during Patrick’s surgery. How could he develop an intracardiac thrombus so many days afterward?

If the surgery was fine, then is there a problem with postoperative care?

Nella’s gaze shifted toward the caregiver, who looked honest and simple.

When their eyes met, the caregiver instinctively avoided her gaze.

Her pale face looked no better than Patrick’s.

Nella wasn’t unfamiliar with this caregiver. She was experienced and had long worked at the hospital. This kind of mistake shouldn’t have happened.

And in the first few days after Patrick’s surgery, his body had been weak.

He slept most of the time, and his anticoagulants were given intravenously, not orally.

It was unlikely there’d been a dosage error.

Besides, the nurses on Patrick’s floor were all seasoned professionals. A mistake this basic was even less likely.

So, where exactly had things gone wrong?
