Chapter 122 Two Homes

The smile in Nella’s eyes deepened without her noticing.
“Yeah. He’s really cute.”
As she said that, she paused again.

Sensing Alfred’s anger growing stronger, Nella explained, “I know you don’t like me keeping him. I’m not planning to bring him to our house. Don’t worry.”
She spoke sincerely. “I’ve already rented a place outside. His existence won’t affect you.”
Seeing how calm and matter-of-fact she looked, Alfred stared at her for a long time. In the end, he was so furious he laughed out loud.
“Nella, you’re really something. You’ve already got two homes now.”
He practically ground his teeth as he forced those words out.
“So you’ve already picked out a place for him? Did you ever ask what I thought? What do you take me for?”
That last sentence was almost shouted at her.
His eyes were bloodshot, like they might bleed at any second.
“What? Are you planning to move out and live with him?”
Nella fell silent again.
She’d had that thought for a long time.
She just never knew what excuse to use when bringing it up to Alfred.
Especially since she knew Alfred hated dogs.
To give this marriage a dignified ending and part on good terms, she’d tried her best to keep Marshal’s existence from Alfred.
But now that he knew, and everything was out in the open, she figured she might as well take this chance to make things clear.
“The contract’s almost over. Whether we live together or not doesn’t affect it.
“Don’t worry. Before the contract ends, I’ll still cooperate wherever you need me to. I won’t

So not only is she keeping someone outside, but she’s also planning to separate from me too?
Alfred couldn’t describe what he was feeling anymore.

He only knew it felt like a huge stone was pressing on his chest, swelling with a sour, aching pain that made it hard to breathe.
He opened his mouth, ready to curse.
But in the end, his tone softened instead.
As if he’d made up his mind, he said, “Give him up, and I’ll forget this ever happened.”
His voice trembled slightly.
He never knew his bottom line could drop this low.
He’d never imagined that one day, he would be this humble in front of Nella.
But when Nella heard him say something so heartless, anger flared instantly in her chest.
“What did you say?”
I’ve gone through so much to save Marshal, and the first thing out of his mouth is telling me to give him up?
Maybe because Alfred had already said something humiliating once, saying it again felt easier.
With reddened eyes, Alfred repeated himself.
“As long as you give him up and never see him again, I won’t care about you keeping him.”
“Hah!”
Nella was so angry she laughed.
“No way.”
She looked straight into Alfred’s eyes. “Without me, he can’t survive. I won’t give him up.”
Alfred’s lowered gaze snapped upward. Disbelief and shock filled his eyes.
“You’re rejecting me?”
His
eyes were full of disbelief.

He thought he’d already compromised this far. He thought Nella would agree, maybe even be grateful that he wasn’t holding it against her.
