No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 124

Chapter 124 Trending

Alfred’s question made Nella’s expression freeze for a split second.

From the very beginning, how did I agree to it?

She remembered the uncontrollable excitement she’d felt when she first learned the other person was Alfred, only to feel like she’d been doused with a bucket of ice water when he proposed a contract marriage.

But back then, she was still naïve, still full of girlish fantasies.

She told herself it was just giving that silent, unspoken crush a chance.

She had chased after him in the shadows for so many years. Now that she finally had the chance to stand in front of him, she couldn’t just back down.

She looked at Alfred quietly, wanting to tell him that she had once charged forward for him without hesitation too.

But after being abandoned by him again and again, she’d finally lost her

courage.

The courage she once had was buried beneath the freezing, bone-chilling snow of Norway.

So, why was Alfred acting like she’d done him dirty?

At the very least, she believed she’d done nothing wrong in this marriage.

She had honored the “mutual non-interference” clause in the contract.

She had also fulfilled everything a wife was supposed to do under that contract.

“And you?”

Nella shot back.

“Weren’t

you just going through the motions too?”

Alfred was about to answer her righteously, but when he met her cold, faintly mocking gaze, he fell silent.

He couldn’t deny it. From the moment he suggested a contract marriage, he’d been treating it as nothing more than a formality.

As long as he got married and dealt with his family’s pressure, he could focus entirely on his

own work.

Nella was a qualified wife. A wife who made things so easy for him that he didn’t need to spend any extra energy on her at all.

She made things so easy that … he ignored her existence and her thoughts, time and time again.

The anger he’d felt just moments ago dissolved the instant he met her calm gaze.

Nella didn’t wait for his answer, nor did she need it. She simply sighed and said calmly,

“Alfred, there isn’t much time left. Let’s just finish this according to the contract.”

The grip he had on her wrist loosened abruptly.

She took the chance to pull free and stepped back a few paces.

“It’s late. You should

go

back.”

Tomorrow, she still had a tough battle ahead of her. She didn’t want to waste too much energy dealing with Alfred right now.

Alfred stared at her in silence, opening his mouth several times, yet not a single word came out.

He thought about that night, after they’d returned from the hospital, when Nella suddenly brought up ending the contract early.

He’d thought she was just angry because the flowers she’d carefully tended had been destroyed by Zoey.

Now it seemed she’d already made her choice long ago.

Alfred had forgotten why he’d come all this way in the first place.

He left in a daze, not even remembering how he’d walked out.

The next day.

Early in the morning, just as Nella was about to hand things over to a colleague, the nurse who’d been on night duty with her rushed over.

“Dr. Milo, check Twitter right now. You’re trending.”

“Me?”

Nella frowned.

I’m not some celebrity. Who would bother putting me online?

Suddenly, she thought of something. Her brow jumped sharply.

A wave of unease surged up in her chest.

The nurse handed her the phone. On the screen was the homepage of that site.

And her name was sitting right at the top, in glaring bold letters, tagged with the word “Trending topics.”
