No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 196

Chapter 196 Staying the Night

Tyler spoke up at this moment to case the mood.

After speaking, he forced a couple of awkward laughs and shot a glance at Alfred.

His gallery still needed Alfred’s help to keep running, so he had to cozy up to this nephew.

Even if the whole family left him isolated, he still had to stand on Alfred’s side.

Larissa, afraid her husband would be left hanging, quickly chimed in as well.

“Exactly. Tyler and I get along so well, but we don’t know everything about each other either.”

As she spoke; she glanced at Nella, then turned to Alfred, whose face had gone pale, and teased, “Nella isn’t even mad. Look how scared you are. So, you really are whipped by your wife.”

Nella tugged her lips into a small smile at Larissa.

She really wasn’t angry, because it no longer mattered.

If it didn’t matter, why bother nitpicking such small things?

She was here for dinner simply to complete a task.

Besides, the Keywoods treated her well. There was no reason to take her frustration with Alfred out on them.

“Don’t worry about me. Eat. There are lots of dishes here I like.”

As she spoke, she picked up a piece of butter-seared abalone from the table and ate it.

“Yes, yes, let’s eat. If we keep talking, the food will get cold.”

Priscilla also stepped in to smooth things over.

That episode seemed to pass just like that.

Only Alfred sat there with a frown, silent.

From time to time, he glanced at Nella.

But she was eating with obvious enjoyment and satisfaction, as if she hadn’t been affected at all by what had just happened.

Then again, that made sense.

Nella only had divorce on her mind now.

Even her cooperation was just so he’d agree to divorce smoothly.

How could she possibly care whether he paid attention to her preferences or not?

Chapter 196 Staying the Night

Alfred tugged at the corner of his mouth in self-mockery.

This meal was hard to enjoy.

After dinner, the family sat in the living room chatting.

Nella kept glancing at her watch, her brows knitting together.

She wondered if Marshal was missing her.

Even though Jasmine was looking after him, Nella still felt uneasy.

Alfred naturally noticed Nella checking the time, as well as the worry and restlessness in her eyes.

He thought of what he’d heard on the phone.

She’d told Marshal she’d be back soon to keep him company.

So she can’t even sit still for this little while?

Alfred felt sour and irritated.

When Nella checked her watch again, he spoke up.

“We haven’t stayed at Keywood Estate in a long time. Let’s stay the night.”

“No!”

Nella refused almost without thinking.

Marshal couldn’t be without her for that long. If she didn’t go back tonight, he’d definitely get anxious.

Her refusal was so decisive that Alfred’s brows furrowed instinctively

Everyone else looked over at her as well.

Regis said, “That’s right, Nella. You two haven’t been back to Keywood Estate in a while. Since you’re here today, stay and keep me company for a game of chess. Stay one night.”

A troubled look appeared on Nella’s face.

But she still gritted her teeth and firmly refused.

“I’m sorry. I really can’t stay overnight at Keywood Estate today, I don’t have shifts this weekend. I’ll come back then to keep you company, okay?”

By then, she could bring Marshal with her too.

She knew Regis wouldn’t hate a little puppy the way Alfred did.

Regis could naturally see the reluctance in Nella’s eyes at the thought of staying overnight at Keywood

Estate.
