Chapter 318 Beg For Mercy

Soft white fluff, polished boots, matching cream tones from head to toe.

The entire look screamed delicate. The kind of delicate that made people feel obligated to protect her.
Anyone who didn’t know better would probably take her side the second they laid eyes on her.
That was the whole point. Zoey had walked into the Apex Medical School campus in that outfit, out in the open, on purpose.
“I didn’t know where you lived. One of your coworkers at the hospital mentioned you were teaching here again. So I came before dawn and waited.”
Her nose was bright red from the cold, but next to all that white, it looked soft and pink, like it was supposed to be
ming. Her voice matched her outfit-small, gentle, and just a touch
pitiful.
“What do you want?”
Nella didn’t move. She wasn’t about to give Zoey a quiet little moment. If Zoey wanted attention, fine. She’d get it.
“You here to apologize for your mom getting arrested for abusing Marshal?”
She didn’t whisper. She made sure everyone could hear her.
Heads started turning. That got everyone’s attention.
“That’s her, right? The influencer who tried and failed to hook up with Mr. Keywood? Thought I recognized her.”
“Yeah, she’s the one who lied about Nella too. Why is she back here?”
“Classic manipulator look. Wearing white like she’s some innocent sweetheart. Probably thinks she can use that to fabricate more stories about Nella.”
“She’s really trying to make herself the victim again? Like we forgot her mom tortured Marshal?”
“She’s seriously walking around in public like this? She’s not even trying to hide?”
“She must think the outfit’s enough to make people forget. It’s not.”
A wave of low voices rolled past Nella. Every word hit clear as day.

She couldn’t help it. She smiled.

No one here was stupid. Not one student on this campus would fall for that tired stunt.
Her family’s mess was still online, still fresh, still disgusting.
And Zoey had the nerve to show up here, in this place, hoping to turn the crowd in her favor?
Nella stared at her. Zoey stared back.
Her expression almost broke. Just for a second.
That cute, soft aesthetic? All part of the plan.
She was hoping to spin some half-truths in front of some gullible undergrads. Paint herself as misunderstood. Make Nella look like the problem.
Too bad Nella beat her to it. Her plan failed to even take off.
Zoey clenched her jaw, but kept the watery eyes going.
“Nella, I know what my mom did was horrible. I don’t deserve to be here asking you for anything.”
Right on cue, a tear slipped down her cheek.
She cried pretty. No doubt about it.
If Nella were Alfred, even she might’ve paused.
She looked like a damn casting call for a soap opera lead.
“Then what exactly are you doing here?”
Zoey sucked in a shaky breath and took a few slow steps forward. She stopped in front of Nella, eyes locked on her face, glassy and desperate.
