The servant replied, “Yes, she returned last night.”
Scarlett continued, “And Grandpa?”
If Xavier had been present, Amanda wouldn’t have dared to act so boldly.
The servant answered, “Mr. Xavier Stewart went out for a walk early this morning.”

Scarlett understood. Amanda was taking advantage of Xavier’s absence to throw her weight around.
But these family disputes weren’t something Scarlett needed to involve herself in anymore.
After getting ready, she headed downstairs.
As she descended, she saw Amanda sitting stiffly on the sofa, her expression dark and displeased.
Hearing footsteps, Amanda looked up. Recognizing Scarlett, her face grew even stormier.
Scarlett ignored her and walked directly toward the main entrance.
She had work to attend to and no time to entertain petty conflicts-especially not with Amanda who had never valued her efforts.
Seeing herself being disregarded, Amanda grew furious. “Stop!” she shouted.
Scarlett acted as though she hadn’t heard and continued walking.
But just as she was about to step outside, a tall figure emerged from the shadows, blocking her path.
Gradually, Scarlett recognized him-it was Luke.
He forced her back into the living room and demanded in a low, threatening tone, “Scarlett, what did you say to my sister?”
Scarlett met his gaze coldly. “None of your business.”
Luke’s anger flared. “My sister is a Stewart. She’s not like you. She has a bright future. If you enjoy being an overworked doctor, that’s your choice. But my sister can’t waste her life like that.”
Looking at his furious expression, Scarlett replied flatly, “I can’t control anyone’s life-neither

can you.”
With that, she moved to step around him.

Luke watched her newfound confidence with disbelief. The woman who used to obey their family’s every word now dared to speak to him like this.
Enraged, he instinctively stuck out his leg to trip her as she passed.
Scarlett didn’t notice his petty move. Stumbling, she lost her balance and fell forward.
Outside the living room was a flight of stone steps. She tumbled down several stairs, her right arm scraping harshly against the gravel-paved ground.
She curled up in pain, her brow furrowed tightly, face contorted in agony.
The culprit stood at the top of the stairs, looking down at her with arrogant superiority.
Amanda stepped out as well. Elegantly dressed, she stood beside her son and gazed down at Scarlett with disdain.
“Scarlett, you better remember this. In the Stewart family, you will always be someone who keeps their head down. You are utterly unworthy of speaking to Luke as an equal. Consider this your lesson.”
With that, she even kicked the study book Scarlett had dropped down the steps toward her.
The book landed near Scarlett’s feet, now stained with dirt.
Luke draped an arm over Amanda’s shoulder and sneered, “Mom, why bother getting angry with someone like her? She’s just an outsider in the Stewart family.”
Amanda patted his hand. “Exactly. If she hadn’t gotten pregnant with Vincent’s child, she wouldn’t even be qualified to set foot in this house.”
The two of them laughed heartily, shamelessly pleased with themselves.
Scarlett lay on the ground, her arm scraped and bleeding, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the sting of their words,
For years, she had been diligent and respectful toward Amanda, and had treated Luke like a real brother-all because of her love for Vincent.
Whatever Luke liked to eat, she would painstakingly prepare, no matter how troublesome.
Even for dishes she couldn’t cook, she would privately learn from chefs.

But in their eyes, she was nothing more than an unwelcome presence, not even worth as much as the nanny.
She held the title of Mrs. Stewart but did the work of a nanny.
