Vincent managed a tired smile. “Go get some rest. Don’t just stand there.”
Still concerned, Sabrina asked softly, “How is your grandpa doing?”

Vincent’s eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep. “Not well. I’ll probably need to stay at Stewart Manor for a while to look after him.”
Her expression fell. “I understand.”
Seeing her disappointment, he added gently, “Once Grandpa’s condition stabilizes, I’ll keep my promise to you.”
Tears glistened in her eyes. “It’s not about me, Vincent. I’m just worried Mom will read too much into this.”
Vincent checked his watch. It was almost 7 AM. Maria would be waking soon.
“Don’t worry. I’ll speak with her myself.”
He walked toward Maria’s bedroom and knocked firmly.
Sabrina wanted to stop him, but it was too late.
“Come in,” Maria called from inside.
Vincent entered with a practiced smile. “Good morning, Maria.”
From the living room, Sabrina couldn’t make out their full conversation, but she occasionally heard Maria’s bright laughter echoing down the hall.
Soon, Vincent emerged.
Sabrina approached him curiously. “Vincent, what did you say to Mom? She sounded so happy.”
He smiled mysteriously. “That’s my
little secret.”
She didn’t press further. If he wanted to tell her, he would eventually.
Besides, she could always ask Maria about it later.
Vincent guided Sabrina upstairs, then asked Lily to wake Vanessa.
Back in his room, he texted Scarlett. “Can we talk?”

Scarlett replied promptly, “Unless it’s about the divorce, I don’t think we need to meet.”
He typed, “It’s related. And with Grandpa in the hospital, even if you avoid me today, we’ll run into each other there eventually.”
She understood his meaning perfectly–if she refused to meet, he’d simply find her at the hospital.
But that would be messy and complicated.
Finally, she relented. They agreed to meet at noon, at a quiet café downtown.
When Scarlett arrived, Vincent had already finished his first cup of coffee.
She took the seat across from him, and he came straight to the point. “Grandpa’s condition is still unstable. For now, we need to maintain appearances. We might even need to act close occasionally—it’s better for his recovery. Once he’s improved, we can proceed with the divorce.”
Scarlett responded calmly, “For Grandpa’s sake, I’m willing to pretend with you. But we should at least file for legal separation now. By the time the waiting period is over, Grandpa should be much better.”
Vincent didn’t respond immediately, just watched her with a complicated expression.
After a moment, Scarlett added, “Even after we divorce, I’ll still care about Grandpa.”
He pressed further, “What about having another child?”
Her refusal was immediate and firm. “I won’t have another child.”
He frowned. “If we fake a pregnancy, the truth will come out eventually.”
“Vincent, you can have a child with someone else. Why does it have to be me?”
She was tired of having the same argument.
Frustrated by her stubbornness, he said sharply, “Scarlett, how could I possibly have a child with anyone else?”
She met his gaze directly. “Why couldn’t you?”
Sabrina was already living at Ravenshade Villa. Vanessa saw her as a mother figure.
What was stopping them from starting a family together?
Vincent studied her closely. He’d never seen her like this before.
