Damian held the boneless woman in his arms, reaching to undo the buttons of her blouse. But after loosening just one, he stopped again.

He looked down at her flushed cheeks, warm and red from his kisses. His heart hammered, and a fierce urge surged through him.

He wanted to take her right then.

But remembering she wasn’t divorced yet, he clamped down on the impulse.

It wasn’t the first time Damian had held himself back in front of Scarlett.

Even though his entire body felt ready to combust.

For the sake of her peace of mind, he forced himself to stop.

Scarlett was in a daze, her mind still swimming, slow and muddled.

Damian shifted her slightly, his voice a rough murmur near her ear. “I’m sorry. I can’t have you yet.”

His words brought her back. Her eyes flew open, the haze replaced by sharp clarity.

She straightened and shoved him away.

At the same time, she fastened the button on her blouse and snapped, “Damian, you’re… shameless.”

Seeing her anger, a faint smile touched Damian’s handsome face. “Darling, you felt that too, didn’t you? The adrenaline rush?”

Scarlett didn’t answer. She turned, pushed the car door open, and got out.

Damian watched her leave and quickly followed.

“Are you mad?” he called.

Scarlett didn’t stop or reply.

Right now, she wasn’t even sure if she was angry.

Her heart was a tangle of complicated feelings.

She thought she disliked Damian, yet moments ago she had almost surrendered.

She had even felt… good with him, had even wanted it to continue…

But now, coming back to her senses, she felt only shame.

She wasn’t divorced yet, but she was already thinking about being with another man.

Damian, seeing her ignore him, caught up in a few long strides. He caught her hand. “Really that upset with me?”

Scarlett stopped but didn’t turn. She stared into the middle distance, silent.

Seeing her troubled expression, Damian suddenly felt a pang of guilt.

He’d gone too far.

Scarlett hadn’t consented, yet he’d almost pushed her.

Thinking that, his grip on her arm loosened.

He lowered his gaze, his voice soft. “I’m sorry.”

Scarlett stayed quiet, turning to walk out of the parking garage.

Damian, unnerved by her silence, caught up again. “I’ll go up with you. Get all the clothes you like.”

Scarlett shook off his hand, her tone icy. “I don’t want anything from you.”

Damian could see she was angry. Though concerned, he didn’t press. Instead, he flashed a teasing, roguish grin. “You just don’t want to spend my money, right?”

Scarlett glared. “No.”

Damian’s smile deepened. He took her hand. “See? Stubborn. Only a woman who really cares about me would be worried about spending my money.”

Then he stepped closer, his broad frame enveloping hers.
