No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 539

Melinda fell silent, choosing not to respond.

She figured that even if Damian seemed taken with Scarlett right now, at the end of the day, Scarlett was still a woman who'd been married and had a child. Compared to her, Scarlett had no real advantage.

In Melinda's mind, Damian probably just didn't know that yet—which was the only reason he could talk about loving her so easily.

Damian, meanwhile, had no idea what was running through Melinda's head. Her silence only made him think she was upset by his words.

Facing the woman who'd saved his life all those years ago, he still felt something for her—a certain weight, a certain pull.

Seeing her unhappy because of what he'd said, he couldn't help but feel uneasy.

Across the restaurant, Scarlett was pouring water for Thomas when she stole a glance in Damian's direction.

He was serving food to Melinda, his movements gentle, careful.

So his kindness wasn't just for her.

She set the water down and settled back into her seat, thinking to herself that Damian was probably having a nice conversation with Melinda right about now.

Nolan noticed her drifting off. Without a word, he added some food to her plate.

Scarlett blinked, then offered him a small smile. "Thanks, Nolan."

He smiled back, but before either of them could say anything else, Thomas piped up. "Since the results aren't out yet, you two should get out and have some fun. Once they're released, you'll be swamped—won't have time for anything."

He glanced between them, then added with a knowing smile, "I've got two lift tickets someone gave me for the slopes. I'm too old for that kind of thing now, but you're young. You should take them, go enjoy yourselves."

Nolan appreciated Thomas' obvious attempt to play matchmaker, but he was more worried that being so forward might make Scarlett uncomfortable. So he turned to look at her, though his words were directed at Thomas. "I'm game either way, but it's up to Scarlett."

Scarlett met his gaze and smiled. "Today or tomorrow works for me. I've got something important to handle early the day after tomorrow."

She didn't specify what—didn't mention that she'd be finalizing her divorce.

Hearing her agree, Thomas shot Nolan a quick, pleased look. "Well? Say yes already, then come by my office and grab the tickets!"

Nolan's cheeks flushed slightly as he smiled. "Thank you, Professor."

The meal wrapped up shortly after.

Thomas, clearly eager not to cut into their plans, finished eating in a hurry.

He stood up promptly. "Come on, let's head to my office."

He grabbed his coat and made for the exit.

Scarlett and Nolan exchanged a glance, then followed him out.

Leaving meant walking past Damian's table.

What she didn't know was that Damian never touched that shrimp.

After getting the lift tickets from Thomas' office, Thomas waved them off. "Go on, don't waste your day."

And just like that, they were gently shooed out.

Outside the university, Nolan turned to Scarlett. "Hey, if you're not up for this, please don't feel like you have to go."

He meant it. He'd rather she be comfortable than go along just to be polite.

Scarlett looked at him and offered a faint, genuine smile. "No, I'm not forcing myself."

Nolan exhaled, relieved. "Okay. Then let's head out. I'll take you somewhere to clear your head."

The week before, in Nebula City, when he'd seen Vincent step away to take that call, he'd wondered if it had something to do with Scarlett's divorce.

But it seemed they still hadn't managed to finalize it.

That evening at Ravenshade Villa.

Vincent walked through the door after a long day at the office and found Vanessa and Lily curled up on the couch, watching TV.
