"Yeah," Scarlett replied.
Damian looked at her, his tone softening. "Don't make any decisions just because of what I said, okay?"
Her heart fluttered once more, but she kept her voice even. "Okay. I won't."
After lunch, Damian returned to his desk to work.
A wave of post-lunch drowsiness settled over Scarlett. She rested her head on the desk, though sleep wouldn't come.
Eyes closed, her mind drifted. The court date with Vincent was approaching—had he been served the papers yet?
And after the divorce... should she really start something with Damian?
She also thought about Vanessa. Even though she was close to Sabrina, her character and actions couldn't keep going on like this.
So many thoughts, yet nothing felt clear.
Restless, she lifted her head and glanced toward Damian. His water glass was empty.
After a brief hesitation, she pushed herself up and hopped quietly toward his desk. She reached for the cup—
But just as her fingers brushed the handle, Damian's hand closed around her wrist.
Startled, she looked up, confusion written across her face.
Damian was smiling, a curious glint in his eyes. "Were you getting water for me?"
She nodded. "Yeah."
Slowly, he pried her hand from the cup, then wrapped it gently in his own. His expression was warm, almost teasing. "Didn't I say I'd handle things like this from now on?"
Scarlett didn't know how to respond.
Seeing her speechless, Damian's smile deepened. With a light tug, he pulled her into his lap before she could react.
His arms settled around her waist—bold, unrestrained. His fingers slid easily beneath the hem of her shirt, finding the soft skin of her lower back.
Her breath hitched as his hands began to roam upward, gently lifting her camisole along the way.
When his palms finally cupped the swell of her breasts, a jolt shot through her. "Damian, don't..." she whispered, but the protest was swallowed by his kiss.
His mouth claimed hers, fierce and hungry, sweeping through her senses like a storm.
Her breath, her scent, every soft whimper—he took it all.
Her hands clenched into fists, her face twisting with hurt. "Scarlett," she whispered bitterly, "just you wait. This isn't over."
With that, she wiped her tears and hurried away.
Back in the office, Scarlett had stopped resisting.
When the kiss finally broke, Damian held her close, his forehead resting against hers. His voice was low and rough. "Did you like it?"
Scarlett's face was flushed, warm with a blush that felt like it could ignite.
She felt exposed, almost ashamed of how easily she'd surrendered.
Hiding her face in the curve of his neck, she stayed quiet.
But her silence told him everything.
Before, she would've said no. Now, she didn't deny it.
Damian chuckled softly. He didn't press further, only brushed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
He could have taken things farther—but he didn't.
