When Daniel heard Sabrina's words, he let out a low chuckle. "What situation are we talking about?"
Sabrina straightened her posture, her tone insistent. "Those pictures and videos circulating online are all AI-generated. Between us—"
Daniel cut her off, one eyebrow raised. "AI?"
"Yes," Sabrina replied without hesitation. "Completely fabricated."
A bitter laugh escaped him. "So you want me to stand here in front of you and Vincent and just... lie?"
"I want you to tell the truth," Sabrina pressed, her voice steady. "Nothing ever happened."
Daniel understood exactly what she was doing—she was nudging him to back her up, to help her clean up this mess.
If this had been weeks ago, he might have played along without a second thought.
But not now. Not with the woman he actually cared about standing right in front of him. How could he possibly steer her back toward someone else?
Seeing his prolonged silence, Sabrina pushed further, her words carefully measured. "Daniel, you and Vincent have been friends for years. You wouldn't want to—"
"For you," Daniel interrupted, his voice dropping, "I don't have to stay friends with him."
Sabrina paled, her composure cracking. "Have you lost your mind? Do you even hear what you're saying?"
Daniel didn't flinch. "If I kissed you, Sabrina, I kissed you. Why would I hide it? That day in the studio, I didn't stop there. I touched you, and you responded. You only pushed me away afterward. Deep down, you know you—"
Sabrina had been trying to catch his eye, silently pleading for him to stop, but he barreled on, each word more pointed than the last.
Finally, she couldn't take it. She stepped forward and slapped him hard across the face. "You're out of line, Daniel."
The force of the blow snapped his head to the side. His ear rang, and it took him a long moment to register what had just happened.
Behind them, Vincent had heard enough. Quietly, he slipped into the driver's seat of his car and started the engine.
When Sabrina turned, she saw the vehicle was about to pull away.
Without thinking, she yanked open the back door and slid inside.
"Vincent, please... are you angry?"
His expression was icy, but his voice remained eerily calm. "Let's just head back first."
He didn't tell her to get out, but the chill in his demeanor was palpable, thick enough to suffocate.
The entire ride back, Vincent didn't utter a word. Through the rearview mirror, Sabrina could see his face—blank, unreadable.
She turned to stare out the window, her thoughts drifting. If Vincent really called off the wedding... maybe Daniel wouldn't be such a bad alternative after all.
